“A quilt will warm your body and comfort your soul”

Our library has a wealth of information on

quilting. If you are interested in checking

out any items, contact our librarian, Eileen

Burnley: [email protected] or call 720-

851-8953 and she can bring the item to the

next meeting for you.

Members in good standing will be able to check out 2 books at a time,

for one month, with one renewal allowed. A $5 fine will be assessed if a

book is not returned by the third month. If the book(s) is not returned

after the third month, the cost of the book will be assessed to the bor-

rower on record.

If you would like to donate books to the library, or encourage friends,

other quilters or businesses to donate materials to the library, contact

the librarian or any board member.

PRESIDENTS NOTE

LIBRARY NEWS

It’s the time of year when my mind

turns to staying cool. The tomato

plants are looking strong and I need

to thin out the cucumber patch. The

rhythm of summer is so different

than the rest of the year. I’m check-

ing the weather forecast to see

whether to water the garden instead of which coat to wear. PPK is half-

way through the 2018 programming and Sandra Coleman and Marlo

Cady are actively planning the 2019 meetings.

This month the meeting is all about having a chance to get to know oth-

er members of our guild. We all have

quilting as a part of our busy lives. In

my personal experience, that common

interest has led to lifelong friendships.

We hope you plan to join us on Tues-

day, June 26th for light refreshments,

tea and conversation!

Andrea

QUILTING BEES!

Parker Piece Keepers is a 501 C (3) organization. Our main objectives are education,

producing quilts, other sewing projects for Adventist Hospital and other charitable

organizations. The Charity Committee has put together our goals for 2017, and we

need your help to be successful. Every member counts, and every member’s hands

are needed to reach our goals this year.

Item Measurement Goal

Baby/Lap size quilts Up to 40” x 52” 8 per month

Receiving Blankets 24” x 24” and 30” x 30” 6 per month

Rice Bags * 9” x 11” 15 per month

Cosmetic Bags Pattern on PPK Website On going

Bibs/Burp Cloths Pattern on PPK Website On going

We gladly accept both empty and filled rice bags. If you fill rice bags, please use 4 cups of rice per bag.

Our primary goal is making quilts for the hospital. We have kits available at each

meeting for you to pick up and return a completed project. You can also just make

tops for charity. You can use your own fabric or contact one of the members of the

Charity Committee and we will be happy to set up a time when you can go through

the guilds fabric for your charity project.

THANK YOU!

2018 QUILT CHALLENGE

Angela Walters Workshop

4

The 2018 Quilt Challenge will be a different concept than in prior years. On a

montly basis, from February to October, Mary Jo Williamson will provide

members with a piece of "ugly" fabric. Of course, one person's ugly could be

another's pretty, but the challenge will be to incorpo-

rate this fabric into an 10" block or blocks and return

it (them) the following month. Blocks will be used to

make charity quilts.

When the blocks are returned at the meeting the fol-

lowing month, each block will earn the member a tick-

et for that month's prize drawing.

We hope you'll join us in this fun adventure in think-

ing outside the box.

The Quilt, Craft & Sewing Festival will be held at the Douglas County Fairgrounds Event cen-ter with FREE parking, 500 Fairgrounds Drive, Castle Rock. Take exit #181 off I-25 and head east on Plum Creek Parkway. The fairgrounds are on the left about one mile down the road.

This show is so Colorful, Creative and Cool. We have sold every nook and cranny in this huge building to the most creative vendors from across America. Don’t miss all these new companies!

Descriptions:

“Help! How Do I Quilt It?”

Sometimes deciding what to quilt can be harder than actually quilting it! Angela Walters will help you decide what machine quilting designs to use by having you ask the expert of your opinion, you! This lecture will start with a slideshow presentation full of quilted eye candy and practical tips for choosing designs. Then, it’s your turn! At-tendees can bring quilt tops to get ideas and suggestions for ways to quilt it. It’s part show and tell, part practical advice and completely fun!

“Little Changes, Big Variety”

In this class you learn how small changes to classic machine quilting designs can create completely new designs. You will be amazed at how many designs you will learn and how many different ways you can use them. Bring an adventurous attitude and your questions, this jam-packed class will send you on your way inspired and ready to quilt.

“Dot to Dot Quilting”

Quilting intricate designs can be as easy as connecting the dots! Learn how to use points on the quilt as a guide for quilting with minimal marking and lots of fun! You will learn how to recognize the “dots” on your quilt, different designs, and how you can adapt them for you.

Angela Walters Workshops

Required Supplies:

Sewing Machine- Any type of machine will work, just be sure that it has the ability to drop the feed dogs. If

you aren’t sure, please refer to the owner’s manual.

Free-motion Quilting Foot- any type of Free-motion quilting foot will work (i.e. Open toed or clear plastic).

If you’re unsure if you have one, check your owner’s manual or contact the manufacturer.

Quilt sandwiches for practice- 2-3 Fat quarter sized sandwiches will work (although they can be any size

you prefer) Or if you are feeling adventurous, you can use some unquilted orphan blocks or a small quilt

top. They can be basted in any method you prefer, such as with pins, fusible batting or fusible spray. Small

quilt sandwiches can even be left unbasted if you want. The most important thing is that you have some-

thing to practice on.

Thread and scissors- To make the machine quilting process easier, use quality thread made for machine

quilting. My favorites are Superior So Fine and Aurifil (both 50wt), but you can bring any type you like. A

thread color that contrasts with your practice quilt sandwiches will allow you to see your quilting.

Optional Supplies: These aren’t necessary, but if you already own them, bring them with you!

-Supreme slider

-Free-motion quilting gloves

-Extended base for your machine

-Camera (to take pictures of quilted samples)

-Paper and Pencil- Each class includes handouts free of charge, but if you think you might want more room

for drawing, bring a notebook.
