November BiographyLin McHaley

Parker Newcomers Past President Lin McHaley comes to us from Chicago, after having attended the University of Illinois and spending 36 years working for United Airlines. Starting in a clerical position, she moved to Cargo, tracing shipments, (before the days of comput-ers) and on to Reservations as a Sales Agent, Trainer and Supervisor. She moved on to Partner...which was the precursor to United Express, and then to head up the Cargo Staff at headquarters, setting cargo policies, procedures, and computer enhancements, facilitat-ing central communications in the global structure of United regarding solutions to everyday work issues.

Oh yes, the most important part of this Resume’ is that back while at Cargo, she met Jim and they were mar-ried in 1981 in Santa Barbara California, one of their very favorite travel spots. They settled in Schaumburg Il., continuing their life of wedded bliss and working together, when Jim was transferred to Colorado. Lin thought what do I do now, but landed on her feet as a Customer Service Supervisor in Denver. Before retiring in 2002, she devoloped and implemented Em-ployee Recognition Programs, leaving United with great personal satisfaction of a job well done.

Fortunately for us, she joined PNC the same year, becoming the Newsletter Editor in April 2003 to the res-cue of the incumbent’s computer failure(stuff happens!) and continued for another year. She has since been our President for 2 years, 1st Vice for a year, and one as Par-liamentarian. She has co-chaired our Evening Potlucks for the past 2 years.

Through the influence of Ursala Huber and Corinne Schieman, she was inspired to take up bike riding at the ripe old age of 56 and never looked back. She has coordinated “The Cycle Chicks” , planning weekly rides via emails to members.(Call her if you’d like a wild ride!) She also does spin classes to keep in shape in the off-season.

Her retirement has been a huge success and she’s used her time well. Gardening in Colorado is a huge chal-lenge after living in the fertile loams of Illinois and avid-gardener Lin solved this by becoming one of the prestigious members of the Colorado Master Garden-ers, working this year with the Pro-Green Conference and advising the sensory gardens at Praying Hands Ranch.

After experiencing the numbing efffects of the deaths of her Father and Sister of cancer, she joined the Cancer League of Colorado to honor their memory.

She currently chairs Hospitality and coordinated the Race for Research in Wash Park in August

Lin and Jim have travelled extensively as you might imagine, visiting Greece twice, Germany, England 5 times, Ireland 3 times, Nassau, Puerto Rico, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal, Austria, Venezuela, the Car-ribean numerous times, and the Hawaiian islands at least a dozen times or more.

These days, Lin prefers staying here in Colorado with her beloved Springer Spaniels, Katie Anne and Rose, who were both adopted from English Springer Rescue America. They also have a Foster dog, Kirby, whose Mom is serving with the Navy in Iraq. Lin enjoys walk-ing her dogs daily and enjoying our beautiful scenery here in Parker.

Lin was the President when I joined Newcomers and I immediately admired her management style and aplomb. She ruled with a patient benevolence and quiet wisdom. I think we can all agree the she is a re-markable lady and we’re fortunate she walks among us.
