This modern 320-bcd hospital was completed in September 1970. It is

a 10-story, masonry, steel framed, air conditioned and fire-proofed

building, containing a gross floor area of approximately 148, 000 squarefeet. Valtz & Kimberley, Inc. were tlie architects who designed the

building.

The basic medical care concept of diis hospital is to provide a level of

care to meet the needs of patients beyond the acute stage of an illness,

widi emphasis centered on rehabilitation. Tliis specialization allows the

facility to operate at a lower cost than is possible in the general hospital.

The hospital is strategically located within tiie Boston City limits to

serve the ever increasing needs of Boston's many hospitals.

Financing for this facility was arranged by Mortimer B. Zuckerman andsupervision during the final stages of development including control of

the construction, equipment and initial operating budgets was the res-ponsibility of Donald Augusms.
