MUZZY Online Level I - Unit 3 - Vocabulary: Parts of the Body
VIEWING ACTIVITIES* Show the scene for context. Show the scene again, and ask students to repeat after the computer.
* After students are familiar with the vocabulary, show this segment with the sound turned off. Ask students to say the words in Spanish. Freeze the action if necessary, to allow students time to formulate the answers.
PRE-VIEWING ACTIVITIES* Display the body poster or pictures. You may also draw a funny figure on the board. Point to its various body parts, and say them aloud. (If you can obtain a human skeleton model from the science department, this is even more effective!)* Use a student model (or yourself). Point to various body parts, as per the vocabulary list, and say them aloud again. Ask students to repeat.
POST-VIEWING ACTIVITIES* Use Activity Sheets to reinforce the vocabulary.
* Tell students they are going to create a "monstruo" (monster) on the board. Ask a student to come up and draw "una cabeza." Ask the next student to draw "un cuello" connected to the "cabeza" and so forth, until they have created a monster. When it is finished, review all of its body parts in Spanish.

POST-VIEWING ACTIVITIES (ctd)
* Using a "Mr. or Mrs. Potato Head" game, place all the parts in a bag or box. Shake it gently, then ask a student to pull out a part. Ask the class to identify it in Spanish, then go on to the next. When all parts are identified, ask someone to construct a Potato Head figure. Afterward, describe the figure by saying, "una cabeza, dos manos, dos pies, una nariz," etc.
* Play "Simon Says." The teacher says, for example, "Simón dice, toca la cabeza. Simón dice, toca la nariz." However, if you simply say, "Toca la cabeza / la nariz" students should not do it. Be sure to tell students to listen for "Simón dice." As students become familiar with the vocabulary, speed up the game.
* Dance the Hokey Cokey in Spanish.
Continue with more body parts.
* Use MUZZY Vocabulary Builder: Parts of the Body.
* Teach the children's song to teach body parts, Head Shoulders, Knees, and Toes:
"Cabeza, hombros, rodillas y pies, rodillas y pies. Cabeza, hombros, rodillas y pies, rodillas y pies. Ojos, orejas, boca y nariz. Cabeza, hombros, rodillas y pies, rodillas y pies."
* Unit 3 - Words and games - Parts of the body. - Game "a" and game "b".
* Play Pin the Nose on Sylvia . Cut out and laminate Sylvia's eyes, nose, ears, hands, feet and hair. Place the body pieces in a bag. Blindfolded students will choose a piece from the bag, try to identify it by touch and pin it correctly to a Sylvia poster on the wall. Classmates are encouraged to help with advice such as:
* Play the Family Portrait Game. Several students will come to the front of the room and organize themselves as if sitting for a family photo. They may move until the teacher says "¡Paren!" At that time they freeze and two volunteers check the group closely and leave the room. The remaining students are allowed to change one thing about each person in the family portrait. They may move a leg or an arm, ask someone to close his eyes, etc. The students return to the classroom and try to guess the changed body parts.
"Pon la mano adentro "You put your right hand in, Pon la mano afuera, You put your right hand out, Pon la mano adentro, You put your right hand in, Y sacude, sacude, sacude And you shake it all about, Haz el Hokey Pokey You do the Hokey CokeyY da vueltas, vueltas, vueltas And you turn yourself around,Hazlo conmigo ya." That's what it's all about!"
