Matthew 20 & Luke 18

Matthew 20:1-2"For the kingdom of heaven is like a landowner who went out

early in the morning to hire men to work in his vineyard. 2 He

agreed to pay them a denarius for the day and sent them into

his vineyard.

Matthew 20:3-7"About the third hour he went out

and saw others standing in the marketplace doing nothing. 4 He told them, 'You also go and work in my vineyard, and I will pay you

whatever is right.' 5 So they went. "He went out again about

the sixth hour and the ninth hour and did the same thing. 6 About the eleventh hour he went out and found still others standing

Matthew 20:3-7around. He asked them, 'Why

have you been standing here all day long doing nothing?' 7 "

'Because no one has hired us,' they answered. "He said to them,

'You also go and work in my vineyard.'

Matthew 20:8-10"When evening came, the owner

of the vineyard said to his foreman, 'Call the workers and

pay them their wages, beginning with the last ones hired and going on to the first.' 9 "The

workers who were hired about the eleventh hour came and each received a denarius.10 So when those came who were hired first,

they

Matthew 20:8-10expected to receive more. But

each one ofthem also received a denarius. 

Matthew 20:11-1211 When they received it, they began to grumble against the landowner. 12'These men who were hired last worked only one hour,' they said, 'and you have

made them equal to us who have borne the burden of the work and

the heat of the day.' 

Matthew 20:13-16"But he answered one of them, 'Friend, I am not being unfair to

you. Didn't you agree to work for a denarius? 14 Take your pay and go. I want to give the man who

was hired last the same as I gave you. 15 Don't I have the right to

do what I want with my own money? Or are you envious

because I am generous?' 16 "So the last will be first, and the first

will be last."

Are you envious?

Matthew 20:16

"So the last will be first, and the first will be last."

Luke 9:24-25For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will save it.  25 What good is it for a man to gain the

whole world, and yet lose or forfeit his very self ?

John 12:25The man who loves his life

will lose it, while the man who hates his life in this world will

keep it for eternal life.

We have to have an

understanding of who

we are in Jesus!

Romans 8:37No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.

Ephesians 3:14-21For this reason I kneel before the Father, 15 from whom his whole family in heaven and on earth

derives its name. 16 I pray that out of his glorious riches he may

strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, 17 so that Christ

may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being

rooted and established in

Ephesians 3:14-21love, 18 may have power,

together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of

Christ, 19 and to know this love that surpasses knowledge--that

you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God. 20 Now

to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his

power that is at

Ephesians 3:14-21work within us, 21 to him be

glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations,

for ever and ever! Amen.

Conquers are who we are, this is what we have;

• We are part of the family of God!• We are strengthened with the

power of the Holy Spirit!• Christ actually lives in our hearts!• We are rooted & established• We’ve been given knowledge of

God and His love• God’s power is at work within us

Luke 18:10-12 "Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the

other a tax collector. 11 The Pharisee stood up and prayed

about himself: 'God, I thank you that I am not like other men--

robbers, evildoers, adulterers--or even like this tax collector. 12 I

fast twice a week and give a tenth of all I get.'

Luke 18:13-14"But the tax collector stood at a

distance. He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast

and said, 'God, have mercy on me, a sinner.' 14 "I tell you that this man, rather than the other, went home justified before God. For everyone who exalts himself

will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted."

Because he had humility with his

relationship with God

It’s the attitude of our

hearts!

Who are you?• Are you refusing to grow

because you are a victim?• Are you not seeing God’s bigger

picture because you are focused on an injustice?• Do you know who you are in

Christ Jesus Our Lord?• Are you living in all He has for

you?• Has humility been your response

to Him?
