IT’S usually New Shoesthat Paolo Nutini sings about but here he is witha sharp new suit.
The 23-year old fromPaisley was personally invited to The GiorgioArmani Milan Menswear show in Italy yesterday –by the fashion designer himself.
Paolo is up for Best British Male and Best British Album for Sunny Side Up at the Brits.
And he’s all kitted out after Armani gave him this suit to say thanks forturning up at his show.
Paolo also brought along his girlfriend Teri Brogan to add a touch more Scottish glamour.
She was Paolo’schildhood sweetheart and was a 19-year-old student when he burst into the limelight with his debut album These Streets – which was filled with songs about her.
Now a model, Teri has blossomed into a stunner and could have graced the Milan catwalk herself rather than just enjoying Armani’s new collection.

A CHAT with Jon McClure –frontman with Reverend andthe Makers who play PrincessPavilion, Falmouth, onSaturday – reveals why he isone of the most political singersto have emerged in recentyears. The man is passionate abouteverything; it’s an irresistibletrait that has just seen himreturn from Ethiopia where hejammed with local musiciansalongside Damon Albarn. It also saw his band headlineLove Music, Hate Racism lastyear and McClure start culturaland political project InstigateDebate with Carl Barat andjournalist Mark Donne. Its aimis to engage young people whofeel disenchanted by thecurrent political landscape.McClure – whose best-knownsong is the aptly titledHeavyweight Champion of theWorld – is obviously gettingtired of the “spokesman for thepeople” schtick though. He told me: “Things likeInstigate Debate are incrediblyimportant but I’m beginning totire of the whole political side.“It’s very easy to bepigeonholed as a politicalperformer, but, to me, the musicside of it is far more importantthan the message.“I’m going to take a break fromall that and just go out with theReverend Sound System whereit’s all about the bassline.“That’s what it will be like inCornwall – up-close bangers inyour face!”For the uninitiated, Sheffieldhit machine Reverend and theMakers are often mentioned inthe same sentences as ArcticMonkeys due to the bands’ closerelationship. So close in factthat Andy Nicholson, originalMonkeys bass player is now afully fledged Maker and will be
playing this show. The Makers will be supportedby two of Cornwall’s up-and-coming bands, Auction For ThePromise Club and Marble Fairy.McClure’s no stranger toCornish talent, havingperformed with Rosie Vanier(formerly of the Goldbug) at theJD Set gig in London lastOctober. He said: “She’s a very beautifuland talented girl. I’m sure she’llgo far.”However, don’t get him on thelatest trend for instant popstars.“The X Factor is ****ingridiculous. People are nowseeing fame as a means to anend. They don’t want to evenbother making music to getthere in the first place. That’s
no motivation for youngmusicians.”Proving he’s a bit of arenaissance man, McClure hasstarred and written in a film forthe BBC, Sheffield To Shanghai, which will air later this year.“I’m no careerist though – ifyou get into music to get acareer, then that’s all wrong.“I just love it all – from playingWembley with Oasis to makingmusic in Africa. It could all endtomorrow, so I’m just going forit.”Tickets for Saturday’s concertare £12 in advance and areavailable fromwww.seetickets.com / 08712200260 and Princess Pavilionbox office 01326 211222.
