+ Design Considerations

- 5th and 95th percentiles for men and women

- 2 operators

- 96” spherical pressure hull

- 50% of the available space given to mechanics

- hatch location

- visibility

- maneuverability

- 3 control panels, each 1” depth

- 12”x18” maneuvering panel

- 18”x18:” systems panel

- 6”x9” manipulator arm control panel

- Dual joysticks

- 1st: Controls foreword, aft, left, right

- 2nd: Controls roll and pitch

This configuration was designed to maximize the efficiency of the given space, as well as the comfort of the users according to their roles. The bull seat for the primary operator was created to support the neck and back while the user looks downwards to operate the mechanical arms and straightforward to navigate. The secondary operator seating configuration consists of a raised, adjustable chair that allows the user to look straightforward and upwards for ascending and descending purposes. Swiveling screens allow for easy entry and adjustability.

+ Joystick DesignFeatures:

- based on ergonomic computer

mouse designs

- increase wrist and hand comfort

- magnets attach joysticks to bull

seat

- allow for freedom of movement

within 5th and 95th percentiles

- allows users to hold joysticks

however they wish

- rounded bottom joystick controls

roll and pitch

- flat bottom joystick controls

direction (foreword, aft, left, right)

- reconfigure space to accommodate for efficient

entry and exit

- consider ease of audible communication between

the two operators

- include lumbar, neck, and foot support for the

secondary operator

- consider adjustable knee and foot rests for primary

operator

+ Improvement Opportunities

19

+ Secondary Operator SeatFeatures:

- adjustable lumbar and neck supports.

(foreword/backwards & up/down)

- top connection functions as the

base for both swivel screens

- gap in the seat increases tail

bone and groin comfort

- seat supported by carbon fiber

- pivots allow for ease of entry/exit

from sub and access to the primary

operator.
