After an unfortunate tenancy the property, including all of the buildings and grounds , were due for some much needed repair and restoration. Currently, our Trust team are hard at work providing urgent care to the roofs and exterior, including the exterior mill work which is now being refinished. Moving forward, the Trust is also focusing on long-term projects which have required applications to the Dept. of Planning, such as having the historic veranda restored and re-zoning the main building for commercial use. The roof of the two storey cottage on the property has collapsed in part and requires immediate replacement, which we hope to start in February. We have also applied to alter the modern exterior steps on this building to uncover part of the original steps and install safety banisters. Wherever possible we are using internal expertise but the cost of the repairs to the property is still budgeted to be $400,000. We are currently seeking $210,000 to reach this goal. The students are enrolled in a new National Trust initiative called Environmental Impact of Marine Debris on our Mangrove Habitats which allows us to monitor the marine debris in Crow Lane Harbour once per school term on a regular basis with the help of Bermuda’s students.
