North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources

Dear Department of Environment and Natural Resources,

You have have stated Duke's unlawful pollution caused by the lagoons "poses a serious danger to the health, safety and welfare of the people of North Carolina" and "serious harm to the

    water resources of the State."

Then enforce the law and protect our families and communities from more toxic pollution.

DENR and Duke Energy proposed settlement fails to stop the pollution from coal ash ponds.

Continuing to study the illegal pollution won't clean it up and continues to put communities at risk. You already know it's unlawful and dangerous!

Dear Department of Environment and Natural Resources,

The proposed settlement between DENR and Duke Energy fails to stop the pollution from coal ash ponds. Continuing to study the illegal pollution won't clean it up and continues to put

    communities at risk.

I urge you to require that Duke Energy stop the pollution of our groundwater and the French Broad River near the Asheville Coal Plant and Mountain Island Lake near Charlotte. Duke needs

to start cleaning up the mess that has already been made.

Further, I ask that you hold a public hearing on the proposal so the public's voice can be

    heard.

Finally, please take action now and end the delays.

North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources

Dear Department of Environment and Natural Resources,

It makes me very sad that, once NGOs indicated intent to sue Duke, DENR filed suit apparently for the sole purpose of entering a terribly weak settlement with Duke. Are the folks at DENR

afraid for their jobs if they don't kowtow to Duke Energy?

The proposed settlement utterly fails to stop the pollution from coal ash ponds. Continuing to study the illegal pollution puts communities at risk. If this type of weak action is what

will be required of DENR under the McCrory administration, I would hope some self-respecting regulators would be quitting in protest soon.

Please make Duke Energy stop polluting our groundwater and the French Broad River near the Asheville Coal Plant and Mountain Island Lake near Charlotte. Duke needs to start cleaning up the mess that has already been made.

Finally, please hold a public hearing on the proposal so the public can be heard.

This joke of a settlement gives pundits nationwide even more reason to mock North Carolina.

    Sincerely,

    Beth Henry

Dear Department of Environment and Natural Resources,

The proposed settlement between DENR and Duke Energy fails to stop the current and continuing pollution from coal ash ponds. Continuing to study this illegal pollution won't clean it up

and continues to put communities at risk.

Further, I ask that you hold a public hearing on the proposal so the public's voice can be

heard. This request is made for a simple but unfortunate reason. From my vantage point, the DENR does not seem terribly concerned with the public interest or representing it.

Again, I urge you to take swift and effective action now to end the delays that allow

continued pollution of our precious North Carolina environment. I further urge you to assess the cost of a complete cleanup of the toxic coal ash and fine Duke Energy accordingly.

North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources

Dear Department of Environment and Natural Resources,

    Dear DENR,

The proposed settlement between DENR and Duke Energy fails to stop the pollution from coal

ash ponds. Continuing to study the illegal pollution won't clean it up and continues to put communities at risk.

I urge you to require that Duke Energy stop the pollution of our groundwater and the French

Broad River near the Asheville Coal Plant and Mountain Island Lake near Charlotte. Duke needs to start cleaning up the mess that has already been made.

Further, I ask that you hold a public hearing on the proposal so the public's voice can be

    heard.

Finally, please take action now and end the delays.

From: Michael David Loven [[email protected]]Sent: Friday, August 09, 2013 11:11 AMTo: Palmer, Lisa MSubject: I oppose the proposed consent order for Duke’s Asheville and Riverbend facilities.

I am writing to express my concern with the proposed consent order for Duke Energy’s

Asheville and Riverbend facilities. The proposed settlement fails to protect North Carolinians and our valuable water resources from toxic coal ash pollution.

According to DENR’s own statements, Duke’s unlawful pollution is “a serious danger to the

health, safety and welfare of the people of North Carolina” and “serious harm to the water resources of the State”. Duke should be required to stop the ongoing coal ash pollution as

soon as possible and move the coal ash to lined, dry landfills away from the river, as is being done by SCE&G at the Wateree Power Station near Columbia, SC.

I urge DENR to stop delaying and require definitive action to stop Duke’s pollution. DENR

should also hold at least one public hearing on the proposal so that the public’s voice can be heard on this important matter.

    Thank you.

North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources

Dear Department of Environment and Natural Resources,

Your constituency is the PUBLIC and your duty is to protect our health and welfare. WE are the customers in "customer service."

Your agency exists to represent OUR interests. What is good for Duke Energy is not always

what is best for the citizens of North Carolina.

    Sincerely,
