Transcript of Paleo Proteins Perfected: 4 of 11; Creatine
Creatine is a nitrogenous organic acid produced in the liver that helps supply energy to cells all over the body
- particularly muscle cells. It’s made out of three amino acids: L-arginine, L-
glycine, and L-methionine. Creatine is one of the most studied ergogenic (work enhancing) substance known. There are hundreds of studies supporting its benefits for athletes but most
people don’t realize that it is very beneficial for everyone else as well.

Creatine
It has been shown to increase LBM or muscle, muscle performance, athletic performance &
fatigue resistance in both young and old.
It helps mitigate or minimize post-exercise inflammatory markers in endurance events
(for example: creatine kinase, lactate dehoydrogenase prostaglandin E2, and tumor necrosis factor-alpha.)

Creatine
Increased creatine is associated with important anti-aging effects, including:1.Protection against cognitive decline.
2. Protection against CHF.3. Reducing insulin levels while improving
glucose regulation.4. Shielding against muscle loss
(sarcopenia).

5. Enhancement of mitochondrial function (the cell’s primary energy producer accounting for 95% of all cellular energy production).
6. Lowers accumulation of lipofuscin (a well known biomarker of aging).
7. Increased lifespan of mice 9% (equivalent to 7 years in human).
8. And Enhanced neurobehavioral performance (memory and intellectual capabilities).

Creatine
Additionally, via its ability to enhance cellular energy production it helps maintain adequate levels of ATP (the body’s primary energy currency), this is crucial
to all kinds of vital functions of both the cells, organs & tissues, and the body as a whole.

Creatine
In the brain, it has a neuroprotective effect as a result of increased energy and reduced lipofuscin
accumulation.
Creatine is believed to be helpful in preventing and combating the following brain & neurological diseases:
Alzheimer’s Dz, Excitotoxicity, Parkinson’s Dz, Huntington’s Dz, ALS, and Strokes.

Also brain-related: Increased Creatine is associated with reduced mental
fatigue & it Increases the brain’s oxygen utilization while increasing memory & cognitive function.
Cardiovascular benefits: Increases Heart ATP levels, Reduces markers of Heart muscle exhaustion, Increases performance & Reduces muscle waste products in CHF
patients.

Metabolic benefits include: 1. Increased glucose utilization,
2. Reduced BS in healthy patients, 3. Increased glucose transporter complex GLUT-4 (that shuttles
BS from blood into cells & on into the mitochondria), 4. Reduces BS and insulin levels, l/t significant improvements of oral glucose tolerance tests, with exercise in DM – shown to reduce BS, Glucose Tolerance Test, & hemoglobin A1c levels.

Creatine
Creatine only occurs in meat and fish. Now that you realize it has so many
benefits beyond bodybuilding, is there any wonder that we included it in our Paleo Proteins Perfected Formulas?
