Sutoyo Siswomiharjo was an Indonesian general who was kidnapped and later murdered during theattempted coup by the 30 September Movement.

Sutoyo was born on 28 August 1922 in Kebumen, Central Java, He finished school before the Japaneseinvasion in 1942 and during the Japanese Occupation he studied governmental administration in Jakarta.

After the Indonesian Declaration of Independence in 1945, Sutoyo joined the Police section of thePeople's Security Army (TKR). In June 1946, he was appointed adjutant to Colonel Gatot Soebroto. Herose steadily through the ranks within the Military Police, and in 1954 became chief of staff at MilitaryPolice Headquarters. He held this position for two years before being posted to London to serve as theassistant military attaché at the Indonesian embassy. After training at the Army Staff College in Bandungfrom 1959–1960, he was appointed acting Army judicial inspector, then because of his legal experience,in 1961 he was appointed to the post of judge advocate general of the Army.

According to the official account by the Government of Indonesia, he was kidnapped in the early hours of1 October 1965. Members of the 30 September Movement entered Sutoyo's house. They entered thehouse and told Sutoyo he had been summoned by President Sukarno. They then took him to their baseat Lubang Buaya. There, he was killed and his body thrown into a disused well. His body was recoveredon 4 October and he was given a state funeral the next day. He was posthumously promoted to MajorGeneral and made a Hero of the Revolution

A passenger plane carrying 189 people crashed into the sea off Jakarta on Monday minutes after takingoff on a domestic flight to an Indonesian tin-mining region.

On Monday rescuers released footage of debris and personal items floating in the water at the crash site,including handbags, clothing, mobile phones, ID cards, and driving licenses. Dozens of divers from thenational search and rescue agency and the military were working to retrieve the bodies of victims.

The plane went down in waters about 30-35 meters deep. Indonesia’s disaster agency spokesman postedvideo of debris on Twitter.

Another official said he could not confirm the cause of the crash, as the plane’s black box, comprising thecockpit voice recorder and flight data recorder, had yet to be recovered. But it was confirmed that thepilot had requested to turn back shortly after takeoff.

“We will collect all data from the control tower,” said Soerjanto Tjahjono, the official. “The plane is somodern, it transmits data from the plane and that we will review too. But the most important is the blackbox.”
