The Life“Jesus answered, ‘I am

the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.’” (John 14:6 NIV)

Jesus is our very source of life. In the 4th chapter of John, Jesus tells a Samaritan woman that He can give her “water welling up to eter-nal life.” (V.14) In John 6:48, Jesus said, “I am the bread of life.” He further describes Himself as “living bread.” He said, “ . . . so the one who feeds on me will live because of me.” (V.57)

Jesus had been followed by a crowd of people who had been miraculously fed by Him with just a few loaves of bread and fish. They came looking for more food. They wanted to see Jesus do more tricks. They were willing to

Minister’s Corner follow for the free handouts but Jesus has more to offer than temporary physical provision. Jesus has eternal provision.

Jesus is asked, “What must we do to do the works God requires? Jesus answered, the work of God is this; to believe in the one he has sent.” (Vs. 28-29) Believing in Jesus is more than looking to Him for the physical and spiritual hand-out. Believing means that we follow Him. Following Him means that we hold to His teaching. We must look to Jesus daily for “bread.” We do this when we read and study the Scriptures. The written Word fills us with the living Word of God. We hold to the teaching of Jesus when we come together as members of His body and recognize His sacrifice on the cross. This is how we feed on Jesus.

The saddest verse in the Bible, however, is John 6:66 – “From this time many of his disciples turned back and no longer followed him.”
