GOOD versus EVIL
I am sure you were heart-sick at the news of so many young lives taken in the Newtown
massacre. We are left with so many questions: why, what do we watch for, what do we do; what do
we say. I believe that one way to fight evil is to do good. We can’t do anything for the mourners
of Newtown but we can do good in our little community. I think we should make a collective New
Year’s resolution: “Let us do good, including random acts of kindness, volunteering, and remem-
bering to say thank-you.” We are truly blessed by so many kind, thoughtful and helpful citizens in
Boston Bar and North Bend. When you tuck yourself into bed at night ask yourself: “Did I do
good today?” Editor
LETTER from the SCHOOL
We are all horrified and affected by the school shooting in Connecticut, and after the
shock, our thoughts turn to our own school and our own students/children. It is understandable that
there will be some anxiety about this incident.
While the potential for such an incident taking place in our school is very low, in response
to the incident our school staff has reviewed our School Safety Alert System processes and ensured
we are all up-to-date and vigilant.
Staff members have been asked to watch for students reaction and to privately offer sup-
port if needed.
As a parent/guardian, you too can help your child. It is important that you protect pre-
school and elementary-aged children from exposure to news media images and stories regarding
the school shooting, as well as avoid over-exposure generally. Also listen and watch for signs that
your child may need more support.
Please feel free to contact the school if you think a counselor can assist, or if you have any
questions or concerns. The staff at Boston Bar Elementary School
CANYON LANES
NEW YEARS EVE
PARTY
The party was a great success. There
was an abundance of food to suit every-
one’s taste. Air hockey (new—donated by
the RCMP), pool tables and the bowling
lanes were kept busy all throughout the
evening. The teens enjoyed the music
and dancing in the back room and the
parents had a lot of fun too.
Canyon lanes thanks everyone who
brought food, and especially the people
who helped set up and clean up.
WE WISH A HAPPY, HEALTHY AND
PROSPEROUS NEW YEAR TO ALL !!

Starts January 14th MONDAY 10—11:00 am
The birds were inoculated regularly against disease. The business employed
four adults and two young boys. The eggs were gathered and stored daily. The
eggs were passed from the bird cages onto a track and remained there until col-
lected and placed in cold storage for about one week
and often less than that length of time.
At 4 pm every Monday, Wednesday and Fri-
day, the eggs were washed, candle graded and pack-
aged, a process which took 1 1/2 hours. The eggs
were lifted in batches of 2 1/2 dozen by a suction cup
-like machine and placed on a conveyor belt to be
washed. They were then dried by a huge fan,
sorted, graded and then packed into flats of 2 1/2
dozen.
Canada A eggs were sized at extra-large, me-
dium and small. Grade B eggs were slightly
cracked, misshapen, or double yoked and only
sold to private individuals. Small pullet eggs were
sold in flats as were the Grade B eggs.
Deliveries were made once a week, on
Saturdays to all the restaurants in the Canyon and some of the stores. Eggs
were delivered to all the stores and restaurants in the Lytton area, including the
hospital. Deliveries were also taken to most of the restaurants and some stores
and hospital in the Lillooet area. A small hobby that became a business was quite
an adventure for the family.

FOR ALL THE ERRORS ON DECEMBER’S
CALENDAR. I HOPE IT DID
NOT INCONVENIENCE TOO
MANY OF YOU. Apologies to
Sherri re: the Thrift Shoppe and
Lloyd re: the Community Meeting.
The Hall was decorated in a forest theme by sisters Lori,
Barb and Shirley and, on behalf of the BB/NB Enhance-
ment Society, Dan & Tammy cooked a delicious turkey
dinner which was enjoyed by all. CounterAttack youth
served and cleaned up. The event was thoroughly en-
joyed by all with a warm thank you to all who
made it possible.
Boston Bar continues to amaze with the amount of food and donations. “So much hard work goes into
this event to make it a success every year. Officers use their own time to organize and attend the event and the
public is always so supportive of their efforts” says Cst. Tracy Wolbeck. BB RCMP members gathered 1,125
lbs. of food and collected $904 in cash and vouchers. (If you’d like to compare: Hope $619 and 1,400 lbs,
Agassiz $533 and 2 truck loads, Chilliwack $2,989.20 and 7,500 lbs.) What a wonderfully successful event this
has turned out to be. Although this is only our second annual event, BB outshines the larger communities.
A huge thank you to our local RCMP, Kal Tire, COP members: Donna Kneller and Shelagh Prowal, also
Ainslie Creek Enterprises for donating the sign..
Christmas Train Thank you to everyone who attended, donated food and money and a special thanks
to our volunteers who collected the donations and provided hot chocolate.
Food Bank We would also like to thank our wonderful Food Bank volunteers: Nora & Barry Jacobs,
Tara & Evan, Carrie, Jeff & Russell, Pat Clelland, Shirley Crow and Canyon Lanes. A most special thank you to
everyone who donates to the Food Bank throughout the year—you are too numerous to mention but you know
who you are and without you and your kindness—none of this would be possible. We are so proud of our com-
munity and the spirit for giving to their neighbours in need. THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH!!
Thank you all who helped with the Stuff the Cruiser 2012. With
the generous donations of food and cash from our very own local
businesses, and our very own residents who also put in their per-
sonal time and effort to support the Food Bank. You’ve all shown
just what it means to live in a “community” and how we can sup-
port one another. (Also see Page 10) Please watch out for your
neighbours. Our recent snow fall has caused power outages and
made it difficult to get around. If you suspect someone is in dis-
tress or requires assistance, please offer a hand or, if need be,
contact your emergency services.
An arrest warrant has been issued for Geordie Arthur FIFE for
“theft of motor vehicle”. If you know his whereabouts please con-
tact the RCMP at 867-9333 or Crime Stoppers.

Family Place Please support the “early years
programs”: Family Place, Head Start and Strong
Start—without your support and attendance—we lose
our funding—and our children lose their jump start to a wonderful
education. Here is the second list of lessons by Keith Pattinson,
from his book “Lessons My Children & Grandchildren Have
Taught Me”.
11. Celebrate their uniqueness.
12. Share their disappointments
13. Teach respect by respecting them.
14. Learn to listen…….listen to learn.
15. Set fair and consistent boundaries.
16. Be a gracious winner and loser.
17. Play make-believe.
18. Encourage racial tolerance by modeling tolerance.
19. Ask for opinions and advice.
20. Marvel at their accomplishments.
Positive Parenting Classes-January 15 & 29th 5-7:30 pm in-
cludes supper, free of charge and open to all parents.
Family Place hosted a delightful Christmas
Party shared by Kopchitchin Head Start and
Strong Start. The children were absolutely
bubbling over with anticipation for the arrival
of Santa and his sleigh load of gifts? None
were disappointed! Santa came through!
Special thanks to Santa for lending his time
to our party. Also a big thanks to all of the
parents who participated and a special rose
to Shelagh Prowal for helping with the party.

Boston Bar Elementary School will see a few changes beginning January 7th, 2013. Secondary Timetable and Staff
Additions: A new secondary timetable will be implemented beginning January 7th, 2013. The amount of minutes per day or

Some classes will be longer to accommodate projects, labs, presentations, etc.
Please welcome Mr. Robert Genaille, who will be joining staff at the school until the end of the 2012/2013 school year.
Bus: Commencing Monday, January 7th, students from Anderson Creek and North Bend will depart from the school at
3:45 pm. Students from Boothroyd will depart from the school at approximately 4:00 pm. This change should not affect the
arrival time at home for students.

of academics, citizenship, attendance, leadership or athletics. Recipients to date are: September; Ethan Angus, Zach
Japp, Ashton Jackson, Tyra Isaac, Kraig Charlie. October: Kate deKoning, Justin Cairns, Aliah Gilbert, Baily

either “throw a pie” or “take a pie”. $750 was raised, which will provide 30 people with water for life in one of the “Free the
Children” countries such as: Kenya, Ecuador, India, Nicaragua, Ghana and Sierra Leone.
Student/parent Handbooks were sent home with students on December 18th. Every family should have received a
copy. Extra copies are available at the School.
Christmas Dinner—was postponed due to the weather. We are hoping to do something in the new year.
Ms. Theresa Dantuma, Principal
A big thank you to PAC members

have worked so hard to raise funds
for their organization; which helps
our school children enjoy an en-
riched educational experience.
