The 2nd European White Book on Transport

2001-2010 introduced the Motorway of the Sea

(MOS) concept to reinforce the SSS. Currently

there are 3 different MOS definitions,

depending on the context:

Logistic from DG-TREN: (2001)existing or new sea-based transport services that are integrated in door-to-door logistic chains and concentrate flows of freight on viable, regular, frequent, high-quality and reliable SSS links.

Political from DG-REGIO : (2003)instrument for economic and regional development aimed to support job creation and social cohesion

Environmental from DG-ENV : (2005)green transport corridor, with low-CO2 emissions , using bio-combustibles and with sustainable design.
