Stem Cells and Cellular Regulatory Mechanisms
Joint meeting of Leopoldina and UKS
Founded in 1652, the Leopoldina brings together some 1,500 outstanding scientists from about 30 countries. It is dedicated to the advancement of science for the benefit of humankind and to shaping a better future. In its role as the German Nati-onal Academy of Sciences, the Leopoldina represents the Ger-man scientific community in international committees. It offers unbiased scientific opinions on political and societal questions, publishing independent studies of national and international significance. The Leopoldina promotes scientific and public de-bate, supports young scientists, confers awards for scientific achievements, conducts research projects, and campaigns for the human rights of persecuted scientists.

Stem Cells and Cellular Regulatory Mechanisms
Agenda
This international symposium aims to bring together basic researchers and clinicians to discuss new developments for the therapeutic use of stem cells. The focus will be on four major areas of human disease: Ophthalmology, cardiology, orthopedics and oncology. The event will take place at the Saarland University Medical Center in Homburg and features 13 high-profile speakers. These international experts will present new approaches in stem cell therapy and discuss regulatory mechanisms on the cellular level which influence stem cell fate and activity. The symposium is intended for interested clinicians to basic researchers and junior scientists.
On Thursday evening, Prof. Michael Menger, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, invites the public to attend his opening lecture to discuss the competitive aspects of science.
