Locksy and Bubby have a lot of fun together. Locksy and Bubby are a type of dog called Skye Terriers. Locksy has long, flowing black hair and always wears a red collar. She likes to show everyone what a pretty girl she is. Even though she looks very pretty, Locksy can be very nosey and very bossy. Bubby is a boy. He has hair the color of cream, and he is very timid. He leaves his hair covering his eyes most of the time. Both Locksy and Bubby love to have fun and play. Locksy and Bubby have a good friend named Twink. Twink is a Shetland Sheepdog. They like Twink a lot and would like to do something special for her birthday. Locksy said to Bubby, “ Hey, Bubby! I have an idea! How about we have a surprise birthday party for Twink? Can you keep it a secret?” Bubby said, “I don’t know. I don’t like secrets...Sometimes they scare me.” “Whatever do you mean?” said Locksy.

Bubby looked sad and said, “Once, I saw that mean dog steal from the teacher’s desk. He told me to keep it a secret and he would give me some candy. That was wrong, so I told someone.” “Then there was another time…” Bubby looked down and started to cry as he re‐membered. “A grown up friend of my Mom’s pushed me down and then sat on me. He told me it was our secret and that if I told anyone he would hurt me more. I was really scared and felt sad. I told my Mom. She believed me and said it wasn’t my fault.

Locksy looked thoughtful, then said, “Hey, Bub—there are lots of good sur‐prises, too!” Locksy got a happy look on her face and said, “Remember how sur‐prised I was to find my favorite ball again? And the time Mom came home with the big bones? And how about when Mom had more brothers and sisters—Boy was that a surprise!”

Locksy picked up Bubby’s ear. She leaned close and said, “Shhh! Here comes Twink! She will be so sur‐prised tomorrow at her party. I can hardly wait to tell her. Now remember, Bubby, you can tell any‐one you want, but let’s wait to tell Twink on her birthday.”

Locksy looked at Bubby and she said, I’m sorry that hap‐pened to you. Grown ups should never ask kids to keep se‐crets. But surprises like birthday parties can be fun!”
