    Software to Be Installed

LMT: The CGP LMT and SGSN9810 LMT run on the PC, functioning as the

operation and maintenance client. The LMTs interact with the CGP LEM

(LMT server) on the OMU to implement functions such as running operation

commands, returning reports, tracing messages, displaying alarms, and

    measuring performances.

CGP installation media: Suse Linux operating system running on the boards,

Oracle database, and CGP network element package (including CGP

    application software).

SGSN9810 managed element (ME) package software: service-related process

    software running on boards.

    Description of the Installation Process

    Step Description

    Prepare for the

    installation.

Before installing the software, make the following preparations:

    Check the hardware.

Check the IP address of the SMM.

Check the dual-inline package (DIP) switches of the SDM.

    Obtain the software package.

Check whether the software is installed on the OMU before the

    SGSN9810 is delivered.Install the OMU

    server.

The operations involved in the OMU server installation are as

    follows:

Install the OMU server through the incremental installation

method or complete installation method. (You can install the

OMU server to one OMU or two OMUs.)

Check whether the OMU server is installed successfully.

    Install the OMU

    client.

Install the OMU client on the PC.

    Install the software of

Checking the DIP Switches of the SDM

The SDM provides the DIP switches for you to set subrack numbers. When multiple

subracks are cascaded, a subrack number can uniquely identify a subrack.

Eight switches are available as shown in the preceding figure, and they indicate eight binary

bits (0 or 1) respectively. The 8-bit binary value ranges from 00000000 to 11111111,

corresponding to subrack numbers 0 to 255. The leftmost bits are the most significant bits,

and the rightmost bits are the least significant bits.In the preceding figure, all the switches are set to 0 (OFF); therefore, the subrack number is

    0. To set the subrack number to 1, set switch 8 to 1 (ON); to set the subrack number to 2, set

switch 7 to 1 (ON); to set the subrack number to 3, set switches 7 and 8 to 1 (ON); the other

subrack numbers are conducted by analog.

(Optional) Setting IP Addresses for External

    Ports on the SMM)

Note: You need to set IP addresses for external ports on the SMM only when the SMM needs

    to be remotely maintained.

Connect the PC and the COM port on the SMM through a serial port cable. Log in to the

SMM through the serial port tool, such as the HyperTerminal and Tera Term. The user name

is rootand the password is huaweiosta. Then, set the baud rate of the COM port to 115200.

    Set an IP address:

smmset -l smm -t eth0 -d staticip -v IP address mask broadcast address

    Add a route:

(Optional) Setting IP Addresses for External

Ports on the SMM) The SMM is used to manage all hardware devices in the advanced telecom computing architecture

(ATCA) subrack. After the SMM is installed, two internal IP addresses will be available,

corresponding to the IP address of the Base 1 plane and the IP address of the Base 2 plane

respectively. The SMM uses the internal IP addresses to process internal data of the subrack.

    255.255.0.0 To interconnect with

    the Base 1 plane

Note: In this slide, "(128 + Subrack number)" represents the sum of 128 and the subrack number. For

example, if the subrack number is 2, "172.16.(128 + Subrack number).120" represents an IP address

of 172.16.130.120. IP addresses of the Base planes are used for internal management of the

SGSN9810. These IP addresses are internally unique, and they do not conflict with external IP

addresses; however, you are not advised to set external IP addresses to the IP addresses in the same

network segment as the internal IP addresses.

    Using the KVM over IP

The methods for logging in to the SMM through the KVM over IP are as follows:

    1. Login through the maintenance network: Connect the PC with the external network port on

the SMM by using network cables, and enter the external IP address of the SMM in the

    Microsoft IE address bar.

    2. Login through local direct connection: Set an IP address (in the same network segment as

the internal IP addresses of the SMM), such as 172.16.128 + Subrack number.200, for the

PC. Use the network cable to connect the PC and any Base network port on the back board

of the switching network board in slot 6. Then, enter the internal IP address of the SMM in

    the Microsoft IE address bar.

The user name is rootand the password is huaweiosta.

Method 1 implements remote login, and method 2 implements local login. Select a method

    according to actual conditions.

    processes.

Complete installation: This method is used when software on both the active
