Our Vision and MissionThe vision of OEC is to be a model school in the School
District of Philadelphia by 2020 as rated by the School Progress Report (SPR) while creating the least restrictive environment for
students with special needs. Additionally, 100% of our 8th
graders will have the opportunity to attend the high school of their choice. We will
accomplish this through:
-Ambitious Instruction-A Supportive Environment
-Involved Families-Collaborative Staff
-Effective Leadership
Our mission is to prepare students to become positive,
productive citizens who can live
independently and with purpose to
serve others and to ensure proficiency (or above) for all students in each subject area and development of
strong character.
At least 80% of students and 90% of staff will attend 95% or more of school days (miss 9 days or less). We are currently at 82.7%
At least 70% of students will earn A’s and B’s in core courses in grades 5-8.
At least 82% of K-2nd grade will score at target on the Spring aimsweb and make at least 1 year’s growth from Q1 to Q4 in their independent reading levels.
The percentage of students scoring at proficient or
advanced on the ELA PSSA will increase by 15% in each
grade level.
No more than 20% of students will score below basic on the math PSSA.
Best Practices: This Week!
3C Engaging Students in Learning 2B Establishing a Culture for Learning
Mr. Tyler is doing a great job using manipulatives to teach grouping with multiplication in his math class. Sabir was able to use counters and rubber bands to multiple numbers using groups. Keep up the great work and continue to use materials and resources that support the learning goals and require intellectual engagement, as appropriate, with math manipulatives and visual models.
Shout out to our leadership sub committe culture team of Ms. Caroline, Mrs. Easley, and Ms. Keefer for recognizing staff birthdays and for establishing dress down Fridays to build a positive staff culture. Thank you to our 3rd-8th grade ELA teachers for visiting schools in the district including Penn Alexander and MYA to take away best practices and implement them at OEC.
4A Reflecting onTeaching 3A Communicating With Students
Ms. Schubert has done a great job of receiving feedback and implementing it especially by using positive narration when giving specific instructions to students for their work. By working with Mr. Magruder to identify specific ways a lesson might be improved, Ms. Schubert is showing growth and reflection in her instruction. Keep up the great work, Ms. Schubert!
Ms. Peterson did an excellent job modeling the process of problem solving in math class. The students were able to circle key information and create an equation to match. Ms. Peterson encouraged students to use academic language correctly by providing the space for students to share their mathematical thinking and use math vocabulary correctly. Keep up the great work, Ms. Peterson!.
