    Background: Early Colleges Educational movement focusing on

    increasing access to post-secondaryattainment;150+ ECHS programs

    nationally, including several inMichigan

    Founded on the assumption thatyounger students are fully capable ofrigorous, higher-level academic work.

    Especially successful with studentswho have not found their niche incomprehensive high schools

    Goal is to provide integrated K-16educational experience

    Early colleges are usually five-yearhybrid programs combining thebest elements of secondary andpost-secondary education

    Focus is on challenge, acceleration,relevancy and relationships

    Students attend an Early CollegeHigh School from Grade 9 toGrade 13, with the schoolembedded and fully integrated intothe college campus

    Upon achieving proficiency in a given content area,students take university courses for high school andcollege credit

    Upon graduation following grade 13, students earn ahigh school diploma and up to 60 transferable creditstowards their BA program, and/or an Associate Degree
