KÆRE MEDLEMTak til alle jer der deltog i årets SMWS Festival. Det blev som håbet en forrygende fest, med glade medlemmer, gode dramme og besøg af grundlæggeren Pip Hills. Vi glæder os allerede til den næste SMWS Festival 2021.

Som I måske har bemærket, så har vi allerede rundsendt de vigtige datoer for næste års Festival, men for en god ordens skyld, så kommer de her endnu engang:

1. Marts kl. 19.00 sættes messebilletterne til SMWS Festival 2021 til salg. Husk at der kræves messebillet for at deltage. Årsagen hertil er som altid, at vi ønsker at bevare den intime stemning, og derfor kun lukker 250 gæster ind pr. dag.

1. September bliver der åbnet for bestilling af overnatning – mere om dette når vi nærmer os den dato.

2. Oktober sætter vi smagningerne til salg for medlemmer, og ugen efter åbner vi så op for at eventuelle ikke udsolgte smagninger kan købes af gæster. Selve programmet udsendes i god tid inden den 2. Oktober.

Foran jer har I et lille Outturn, som I måske allerede har smagt under online smagningen den 27. februar, og marts flaskerne sættes til salg mandag den 2. marts kl. 19.00.

Næste projekt bliver deltagelse i whiskymessen i Kolding den 7. Marts, og vi håber naturligvis at de medlemmer der deltager her, kommer forbi og siger hej.

Næste Outturn bliver udsendt i slutningen af marts, hvor vi tager hul på den første omgang casual days for i år. Husk at I allerede nu kan tilmelde jer casual days ved som altid at sende en mail til: [email protected].

This latest experimental expression draws from a combination of whiskies matured full term in 1st fill Spanish oak sherry casks, as well as those matured in bourbon wood before over two years of marrying in 1st fill American oak sherry casks. The result is a dark, fruit forward dram with a touch of spice mix adding balance and complexity. We’re delighted to present to members of the Scotch Malt Whisky Society, Muscovado Swirl.

A classical sherry profile that bursts initially with red berry compote, wine gums, freshly brewed coffee, polished hardwoods, exotic spice mix, toasted nuts, brown toast spread with treacle and walnut wine. A splash of water brings wet leaves, strawberry tobacco, muscovado sugar, rhum agricole, sesame oil, black cumin seeds, lemon peel, toasted wood, rye bread and bitter chocolate. In the mouth it’s a big swirl of dried dark fruits, menthol tobacco, strawberry wine, red liquorice, damp earth, roasted chestnuts, milk chocolate, buttermints and fig rolls. Some reduction unleashes old herbal liqueurs, mulled plum wine, coffee and walnut cake, cola cubes, cherry syrup and the lingering warmth of fruity red chilli.

A big and sumptuous nose of treacle pudding, dried figs, fresh pear cake, ginger biscuits, old wine cellars, leaf mulch, chocolate sauce, strawberry scented tobacco and aged madeira drizzled over fresh lychees. Water gives us caffe latte, roast chestnuts, milk chocolate, carnations, toasted almond flakes, chocolate spread, pencil shavings, sheep wool, soft earthiness, unlit cigars lost in a new handbag and game meats. The palate is alive with spiced honey cake, aged sweet wines, rosewater, jasmine tea, cherry marmalade, wood spice, landline, black pepper, wax and methylated oils. A little water brings out coffee tequila liqueur, rosehips, mint leaf, wood extracts, cocoa powder, pink peppercorns, dried thyme, bovril and old workshops. Matured for 6 years in an oloroso butt before transfer to a 2nd fill Spanish oak PX butt.

Sweet, floral aromas encapsulated vanilla honey with dried flowers before a large dollop of citrus presented thick cut marmalade on brown toast. A framework of fresh wood and old leather encased coconut before fresher tones brought us to a greenhouse abundant in flowers and a pine forest after the rain. A block of milk chocolate delivered us to a palate full of oils and buttery textures. A spicy layer of fresh ginger and citrus skin settled above shortbread and digestive biscuits before being joined by tart fruit to form apple crumble with custard. Mint and lavender gave a lively edge before rich and opulent dark chocolate joined banana on the lasting finish.

A wonderful mix of salted toffee, golden sultanas, orange muscat dessert wine and wee flickers of old school sherry. On the other hand, the coastal vigour of the distillate charges in the background with big, wind-whipped lashes of sea spray, wet beach sand and an invigorating shot of sherry vinegar! Water unleashes seaweed, fizzy surf gathering in rock pools and oysters dunked in bitter malt beer. Yet, the sherry resurges with caramel chocolate, full fat cream and a nutty amontillado richness. The neat palate is rich with the funk of old bodegas! Mint choc chip, hessian cloth, chopped dates and salty old oloroso. Add to that liquorice, beach pebbles, chalk, heather and floral teas. Even something akin to raw, peppered mackerel. Water brings out citrus pith bitterness, lemon balm, menthol tobacco, iodine laced malt, miso broth, herbal tinctures and tiger balm! A monstrous battle between the seashore and the sherry cask with no clear victor!

There is no mistaking this one. Lashings of raw antiseptic and engine grease whipped into a pasty flurry with bonfire ashes and TCP. Add a bucket of green olives and you’ve got some mad tapenade. There’s also bandaged whelks plummeting to their demise on the hot coals of a BBQ. Pure brilliant blue peat smoke brings a lump to the eye and tear to the throat. With water it’s all petrol-doused sandalwood, cherry eau de vie, gorse and soy sauce. Taste it and you’re chewing a bunch of smouldering heather. There’s lemony peat and peaty lemons. Pink grapefruit sharpness, ash-rolled goat cheese, dried mint leaf, pin-sharp herbal ointments and smoky wax. Reduction brings out a few litres of hot tar, salty pasta water, cullen skink broth and buckets of Germoline.
