Dear Church Members and Friends, The weekly mailings we have been sending out have helped us stay in touch during this time of uncertainty,
isolation, and social unrest. The world is having a tough time in 2020! Personally many of you are having a tough time due to life events unrelated to world events. Our “normal” tough times seem even worse in the middle of everything else. We can’t help but wonder how are we supposed to be God’s people when everything
is turned upside down. As individuals who follow Jesus and the mission and purpose of the church remains to offer Jesus, “the Living Water, the Bread of Life, Light of the World, the Breath of Life.” Jesus gives us all we need in life. God’s
grace and forgiveness free us to receive all God’s gifts. A gift badly needed these days is hope. Hope is given abundantly but life bogs us down to the point we can’t always grab hold of it. I pray you will grab hold of Jesus and receive God’s gift of hope even in these difficult times and with all that
might be going on in your own home today. Worship is a good place to receive hope! Join us for worship on Facebook live at 9:30 a.m. on Sundays or watch it later on our website or Face-book page. It is a strange way to worship. It may seem the equivalent of going from a town crier telling those
who can hear the news to today watching the news 24/7 on TV. As strange as it is, I am thankful it is an option. It reminds me of a pastor we once received at my home church who was difficult to listen to because he seldom changed his tone of voice. But many decided to try listening anyway and learned more from him than from many other pastors. It required focus and a desire to hear what God had to say through this Godly man. Worship on
line is like that. You have to be prepared to focus, to work hard at being present in the moment even though you are not. Believe me, providing worship without members in attendance was much more difficult than our regular old way of doing church. I guess it makes sense that being present to listen and participate without being in the
church building is doubly hard for church members. If you want to try to “sort of be here” for worship, come to the outdoor service. It is a strange way to worship also. But it’s more fun. It is especially fun if you already liked honking your car horn and singing in
your car at the top of your lungs before COVID-19. Now you get to do those things as part of worship! Hopefully and tentatively, we are planning to start worship in the sanctuary on June 21. It is not a definite but a tentative plan. We are utilizing the information we received from our church survey and CDC guidelines.
Forty-nine surveys were returned. Most indicated they would either return immediately or if comfortable with implementation of safety precautions. The percentage of those wanting to attend at 9 or 11 is similar to before this crisis. The vast majority agreed to the suggested safety precautions of social distancing, avoiding physical
contact and using hand sanitizer. Wearing a mask in worship is the least favored precaution with only 65% wanting to do that. 60% did think it should be a requirement to wear a mask in worship. Most believe we should continue offering on-line worship. Only 27% would be willing to attend a service at a time other than their
preferred service time. 60% said they would stay and watch the service on a big screen television if there was not enough room for everyone in the sanctuary. Because of your answers and recommendations we are following from the church conference and the
CDC, this is how I am anticipating worship to be when we return to the sanctuary. 1. 9:00 a.m. Contemporary service will continue as an outdoor service. (Rain will cancel this service) 2. 11:00 a.m. Traditional service will be in the Sanctuary with the following changes:
A. Reservations by Friday at Noon will be needed and seats for approximately 30 will be assigned. B. Overflow seating will be available in Hardin Hall and assigned. C. Social distancing and the wearing of face masks will be required. Hand washing and sanitizer use
encouraged; limited physical contact, no hand shaking, hugging, no congregational singing in- doors; offering boxes to receive your offering will be in the Sanctuary and Hardin Hall; you will need to enter and depart through the same door at the direction of an usher; bathrooms available for one person at a time. These measures are not what we want to do but are
necessary temporarily. Yes, worship in the building may be the strangest worship to us of all.. We will come together for worship however we can! We will worship even in these strange ways because we are called to tell others
about Jesus. We are called to offer spiritual food, water, breath and light through our Savior. I am praying for your physical and spiritual health and well being. “I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.” John 10:10 .
Your servant with and for Christ, Pastor Donna
