Dear Readers,

All over the world, it has been accepted that every business must act on global warming and other environmental concerns so as to establish long term trust with the public/customers and to meet its social and moral obligations.

A recent study by German, Swiss and British researchers published in the journal Nature reveals that if CO2 emissions are halved by 2050 compared to 1990, global warming can be stabilised below two degrees. Since the industries contribute to a large extent to carbon emissions, solutions have to emerge from within the industries. The situation requires urgent action for effective results for the future. Since entrepreneurs are problem solvers and drivers of innovation, in this issue of Outbox, Dhriiti has featured student entrepreneurs and research scholars involved in sustainable development and green entrepreneurship.

Green infrastructure (Read Mrs. Smita Chugh’s research and interview with Mr. Rakesh Bhatia, DGM Real Estate, Reliance Infrastructure) is one of the emerging options that presents an immense opportunity in the construction sector. Next are the technology driven initiatives such as ECPS and Hydroponics (Inititatives of IIM and IIT students) and awareness campaigns (Less plastic more life with Vinod Lal). Small beginnings can also make a huge difference as show by the initiatives of 15 year old Shreya who has written to us from California. We hope to continue to draw many more readers and contributors from across the globe!

Cheers! Unnati Narang Editor, Outbox
