Houses are built with concrete blocks and structural steel reinforcement, lattice “Solaire” windows, metal doors, a patio, a perimeter fence that protects the house from erosion, and a cement tile floor. The minimum constructed area is 30 m2 and a maximum of 42m2, depending on the model.
Home improvements are intended to impact the qualitative deficit, allowing the gradual improvement of existing houses. A variety of alternatives are offered, including loans for risk mitigation works, legalization of property and any other financial need related to the improvement of housing.

buildwe
Since 1998, Habitat El Salvador has worked in partnership with others to assist families that have been affected by disasters. This is done through home improvements, house construction, providing permanent sanitary solutions.
Coordinating activities with the central government to directattention to families and communities, we also participate in various networks of risk management and disaster relief, such as the Humanitarian Country Team, Civil Protection Committees, etc.
Disaster Response
In response to God´s love, Habitat for Humanitybuilds houses and provides housing solutions, therebycontributing to the transformation of individuals, families and communities. For that reason, the Churchis a natural partner in this assignment.
This is about serving God through serving others. Thiscalling to show faith in action cannot be ignored, that´swhy our Faith Partnerships Program offers a uniqueopportunity for everyone to actively live their Faith.
Faith Partnerships
National and international volunteers support families in the construction of their homes and in other activities such as: program promotion, trainings, advocacy, etc. Since 1997, Habitat El Salvador has received more than 1,200 international volunteers and more than 2,500 national volunteers per year.
Volunteering
Community projects aim to promote the comprehensive development of groups of families without land, or those that are in extreme poverty, therefore requiring long-term intervention. A total of 8 community projects have been developed in partnership with actors such as the local government, private companies, churches, etc.
These projects include land, housing, basic services, social infrastructure, vocational training and entrepreneurship, among others.
Community Projects
In coordination with various sectors of the civilsociety, actions are taken to promote housing as abasic Human Right. In coordination with others,Habitat El Salvador worked on the formulation of the NationalHousing and Habitat Policy (PNVH) and is currentlydeveloping a monitoring plan to continue the work.
Advocacy
workHousing solutions, both for home construction andimprovement, are provided through accessible loans. Each loan payment is invested back into the constructionof other housing solutions, thereby promoting a cultureof payment and the sustainability of the program. In some special cases, Habitat El Salvador negotiates withpartners to contribute resources in order to subsidize afamily’s housing solution. The percentage of subsidy isdetermined by performing a socio-economic research ofthe family’s condition.
Recognizing that poverty is a multidimensionalphenomenon, we offer Housing Support Services(HSS); a set of actions that strengthen the knowledgeand skills of families, helping them manage theirlimited resources properly. Topics covered include:Financial Education, Community Development, RiskManagement and Construction.
Habitat for Humanity El Salvador has developed asignificant technical capacity at the service of thefamilies we work with. In this way, we support thefamilies to build their homes under the supervision ofhighly trained technical staff, ensuring quality ofconstruction and the effective use of limited resources.
We count on you! We work so that the need for adequate housing is present in every heart and mind. Join a construction team as a volunteer.

Habitat for Humanity is a non-profit organization that works to facilitate housing solutions for families with limited financial resources in over 70 countries around the world. Habitat for Humanity seeks to advocate for adequate housing and drive transforming and sustainable community development. In El Salvador, it has worked since 1992, providing more than 32,000 housing solutions, benefiting more than 160,000 Salvadorans.
The working model of Habitat for Humanity El Salvador uses housing as a means to help families overcome poverty. Families find in the organization a tool to improve or build a house, resulting in a significant improvement in their living conditions. The house becomes the catalyst that contributes to the holistic development of the family, impacting positively their welfare, education and health. This methodology fosters the spirit of self-improvement in the families and helps ensure program’s sustainability.
