You can purchase and dedicate the altar flowers each week. This is a lovely opportunity to celebrate, give honor to, or memorialize someone by way of a flower dedication.

Pastor’s Message
Walking Barefoot in the Kingdom
Jesus wore sandals according to John the Baptist’s testimony that he was not fit to
untie one of Jesus’ sandals. They are definitely useful for the hot streets of
Bethlehem, Jerusalem and Capernaum. Much of Jesus ministry was done on or near the Sea of Galilee.
This is an area where
sandals would be more
of a hindrance than a
benefit. Wet sandals don’t work on a boat
and the streets are cool
enough where they are not needed. So we
might suggest that some of the time by
necessity Jesus was a
barefoot Messiah. Many people today
insist upon the health benefits of going
barefoot such as: better
balance, feeling grounded, building foot strength, better posture, better blood
circulation staying warmer in the winter.
I can’t vouch for any of these benefits personally but I am amazed that the eighty year old Moses was asked to take off his shoes before he was allowed to speak with
God at the burning bush in the desert. Perhaps that is a clue for us who want to
connect with God in a different way. God told Moses that the ground was Holy. The everyday ground that he trampled on was Holy. The only way he could see it was
to feel it on his bare feet. What do our shoes represent? Isn’t it protection from what could harm us, or even a glamour statement,” if your shoes make your outfit
pop!” But God is saying something like, relax, you’re with family now, take your shoes off and enter into my rest. My home is your home. You need no protection
here and you are welcome without a fashion statement. Maybe being barefoot is an invitation to get closer to God. After all isn’t that what we are all about?
Continue to have a blessed summer,
+Pastor Ken, the barefoot pastor
