On Sunday, February 18th, Pastor Tony Durante addressed the congregation and let us know that HE ACCEPTS the call given to him to serve as the pastor of Our Savior Lutheran Church and School. Pictured below is Pastor Durante and his wife, Junko and daughters; Aya, Mika and Tae´. We will keep the congregation informed as we plan on his installation date.
Adult Bible Study 9:30 AM in the conference room.
The Book of Daniel
We will be reading and discussing
the life, times, dream interpretations, visions and prophecies of Daniel.
MEN’S CLUB As mentioned in Pastor Moore’s farewell luncheon, the Military Overseas Support Team (M.O.S.T.) needs our help. Karen Walbridge can no longer run this mission
project by herself. The school is supporting this mission as is the Women’s Group and Outreach Board. This is temporary support. I have proposed that we form a men’s group
that will help Karen and support this mission. So far John Wheeler, Robert Montreuil and Bill May have contacted me and offered their time and talent. Are there any other men out there that will come forward and join these men in support of our military? Brad Heine (954) 253-7584 [email protected]
PARABLES FROM LIFE – LENT 2018 After Jesus was baptized in the Jordan River
by John, he went into the desert for 40 days, a
period of preparation and reflection which included the vicious temptations of Satan to
divert Him from his ministry before HE even
began. Jesus prevailed. As we begin our season of Lent, an occasion of reflection and
introspection into our innermost heart and soul,
we do so in anticipation of walking with Jesus
through some experiences we’ve had in our own desert. Many illustrations Pastor Volz
will employ during this Lenten series will
come from his 56 years of ministry and will be actual situations and events which he can share
without violating any personal confidences.,
As we walk through our desert we do so with great confidence since we know that Jesus has
already made that walk.
The Lenten Theme this year will be:
Parables from Life!!
BIBLE STUDIES AND TECHNOLOGY The conference room in Luther Hall has been outfitted with a new smart,
widescreen 55” TV thanks to the effort of multiple people and groups. The Bible Brunch ladies, spearheaded by Dorothy Schawk, provided the funding; Dawn Banford, on the school staff,
researched and recommended the model, she also set up the connections and is helping users configure their devices to connect wirelessly to the TV; the church purchased the mounting hardware; John Strang and Howard Fischer, of the Lay Ministry and Properties Committee, installed the TV on the wall. The TV will be used by all of the groups here at Our Savior. We are truly blessed to have such cooperation and participation by so many people. Please stop by and check out the TV in the conference room.
WEDNESDAY MORNING BIBLE BRUNCH Dorothy Schawk will lead the group with a special class on “Discovering Hope” in the Psalms.
Be in the WORD
MRS. BECKY HARTER My name is Becky Harter, and I am so very happy to have the opportunity to spend time with students as the art teacher at Our Savior Lutheran School. I grew up in the Midwest, attended a small Lutheran school, very similar to OSLS and now hold a master’s degree from Florida State University. (Go Noles!) In addition to teaching art, I work part time as a licensed clinical social worker for the Memorial Healthcare System. I am a member of the Florida Alliance for Arts Education, and enjoy many different types art in my free time. My husband and I feel very blessed to have our three children attend OSLS. As the art teacher at OSL, it is my wish for students that each class will enlighten their hearts with a bit of faith, wisdom, and confidence. As the Bible verse states, “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men.” Colossians 3:23; it is my mission to center on the hearts of the children, helping them grow in a relationship to the Lord. It is a privilege to watch your child grow and learn, and to be part of their journey to Christian maturity. With this opportunity as their art teacher, I will work with all my heart, centering on the hearts of children because I believe what is in their hearts now, shapes their future.

LAUDERHILL'S MELLOTT CELEBRATES NCAA BOWLING TITLE AT THE WHITE HOUSE
The storied bowling career of Lauderhill resident Jessica Mellott keeps getting better and better. The 21-year-old senior joined her McKendree University teammates and coaches for a visit to the White House after the women's bowling team won the NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) national championship. The Bearcats faced the Nebraska Cornhuskers in the finals and had a dominating performance, winning in an impressive sweep (4-0). This was the first national championship in any sport for McKendree University. To say the student and faculty from the small university in Illinois were excited would be an understatement. Mellott made a strong contribution to the team effort. "Being invited to the White House was something I will never forget," Mellott said. "Not everyone gets a chance to go see the White House, let alone be invited inside to meet the President of the United States. It was extremely cool to see our nation's history at a personal level rather than through a textbook." Mellott is well known in the South Florida bowling community. Her accomplishments on the junior level were so impressive that she was inducted into the Broward County Junior Hall of Fame. As a student at Coral Springs Charter High School, she earned 20 tournament victories along with state tournament titles. Last year, Mellott was named to the United States Bowling Congress Junior USA Team. The former Sun-Sentinel Bowler of the Year comes from a strong bowling background. Her older sister Jenna is an accomplished bowler in her own right and went to the University of Alabama Birmingham on a bowling scholarship. The Mellotts developed their skills on the lanes at Strikers Family SportsCenter in Sunrise. Every year there are new goals and accomplishments to attain. For the moment, Mellott is enjoying her senior year with her teammates. The next challenge is always right around the corner. "I believe winning our NCAA and ITC (Intercollegiate Team Championships) in the same week is still our biggest accomplishment and being invited to the White House is something we will never forget, but nothing can top making history with my teammates on the lanes," Mellott said. "Sharing this experience with my teammates was definitely something special. We are very close and they are my family." (Feb. 18, 2018 – Sun-Sentinel article)
Congratulations
Jessica Mellott
