A collection box will be placed in the narthex. Ladies, let’s have fun with this and help those less fortunate. We have a month to collect items. SPECIAL CELEBRATION TO HONOR ALL VETERANS
Here's a chance to really thank a veteran -- actually many veterans of all ages and all military eras.
Honor Flight South Florida and the Florida Panthers are sponsoring a special Veterans Day weekend celebration at 2 p.m., on Sunday, Nov. 12 at the Panthers' BB&T Center on NW 136th Ave., across from Sawgrass Mills in west Sunrise.
The event is a Virtual Honor Flight with the special honorees being World War II and Korean War veterans, who because of health or other reasons are not able to go on an actual Honor Flight to Washington D.C. Those veterans, plus one guest, will be seated in a luxury suite with food through the afternoon. But the day is a celebration for all veterans, no matter the age, era or conflict.
Admission and parking are free and open to the public. It's a great event for families, Scout troops, schools and others.
Honor Flight is the charity that flies World War II and Korean War veterans on a free trip to Washington D.C., to see their great memorials. On a typical Honor Flight day, veterans visit the WWII, Korean and Iwo Jima memorials as well as the Changing of the Guard at Arlington Cemetery. Veterans return home to a big airport celebration.
Because some veterans are no longer able to travel, the Virtual Flight simulates the Honor Flight experience with a 35-minute movie showing the full tour in Washington, plus entertainment and surprises. The 13th Army Band will be conducting a patriotic concert, featuring the anthems of all the military branches. The scheduled speakers are Congressman Brian Mast, who lost both legs while serving in Afghanistan, and General Raymond Odierno.
If you would like to register a World War II or Korean War veteran for the Virtual Flight recognition, please go to www.virtualhonorflight.org. Otherwise, please invite your friends and come out for the kind of "feel good" day we all need occasionally and one you will long remember.
More information can be found on www.virtualhonorflight.org or by calling Tom Christensen, 954-224-1818.
Thank you, veterans! On Veterans Day, we honor men and women who’ve served and sacrificed in one of America’s armed services. On November 11, 1918, America and her allies signed a truce with German leaders, ending World War I. In 1919, President Wilson decided the United States should remember with gratitude the end of that war and honor military members by marking Armistice Day, or “truce” day. In 1954, Congress changed the name to Veterans Day, honoring
veterans of every era. Veterans Day highlights our country’s quest for peace, justice and freedom throughout the world. Followers of Jesus, the Prince of Peace, pray for unity among all nations and for the day when “nation will not take up sword against nation, nor will they train for war anymore” (Isaiah 2:4, NIV).

GETTING TO KNOW OUR TEACHERS! Mrs. Oana Silion
Hi. My name is Oana Silion. I am the 18 month olds
teacher here at OSL. I'm very passionate about teaching little kids having
gone through it with my daughters as well (still very fond of those memories :)). I'm happy with the program here at Our Savior Lutheran School both as a teacher for the kids and as a parent of two of its students. I find it caring for the children and with an individualized focus. I've been volunteering and substituting since 2012 and then started teaching 18 month olds in 2015.
I am originally from Romania. I am married with a wonderful husband and have two daughters together: Evelyn age 7 and Jasmine age 9. I was fortunate to be a stay-at-home mom for several years, and be able to nurture them and watch them grow. I realized how important their early years were and the positive impact I had on their growth.
I appreciate our enlarged family here at Our Savior Lutheran school, feeling shared by my daughters as well over the years - they're still keeping in touch with all their teachers since PreK.
"Let the little children come to me." Matthew 19:14

A Veterans Day prayer God of all nations, you are our Strength and Shield. We give you thanks today for the devotion and courage of all those who have offered military service for this country … We ask today that you would lift up by your Spirit those who are now at war; encourage and heal those in hospitals or mending their wounds at home; guard those in any need or trouble; hold safely in your hands all military families and bring the returning troops to joyful reunion and tranquil life at home. Give to us, your people, grateful hearts and a united will to honor these men and women and hold them always in our love and our prayers until your world is perfected in peace and all wars cease. Through Jesus Christ, our Savior. Amen. —Rev. Dr. Jennifer Phillips
