MEET ROEL Leukemia survivor In March 2011, just before his 2nd birthday, Roel was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. After more than 3 years of chemotherapy, Roel remains in remission. That’s a great thing because his busy schedule of bike riding at the beach does not allow any more time for cancer.

AIDEN 6th Grade, Brownsburg West Middle School Brownsburg, IN Aiden was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) in April, 2012. During treatment, Aiden missed spending time with his friends and going to school. He is

now in remission! He loves soccer and playing outside. Aiden’s hero is Peyton Manning because he donates a lot of time and money to kids in Indianapolis, just like him. He also got to meet Peyton FOUR times during his treatment. When he grows up, Aiden would like to be a mechanical engineer. Aiden wants to thank all of the students participating in Pennies for Patients for helping kids like him.

AUBREY

5th Grade, Woodlan Elementary Woodburn, IN

Aubrey was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) in January, 2009. Aubrey went through 26 months of chemotherapy and a lot of other treatments. She is now in remission! Her least favorite thing about having cancer

was all the medicine, especially the shots. Aubrey’s hero is her dad because he is a police officer who protects people and is very brave. Aubrey enjoys dance, drawing, swimming and reading. She has three pet cats and a rat. She would like to be a fashion designer when she grows up. Aubrey says “thank you!” to all students collecting donations for Pennies for Patients.

VICTORIA 9th Grade, Mt. Vernon High School Fortville, IN Victoria was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) in January, 2005. She underwent over two years of chemotherapy and 10 days of radiation treatment and is now a survivor! Her favorite subject at school is science and she would like to be a nurse someday. Her favorite TV show is Grey’s Anatomy. Victoria loves swimming and bowling— her

highest score is 162! Her mom is her hero because she was always at her side when she was sick. Victoria’s least favorite thing about having cancer was that she didn't get to spend a lot of time with her family and friends, but she was very thankful for the people who came to visit her in the hospital. To the students participating in Student Series, Victoria says, “thank you.”

ZAKI 3rd Grade, Clarks Creek Elementary

Plainfield, IN

Zaki was diagnosed with Acute Leukemia (ALL) in November, 2010. His treatment included two and a half years of chemotherapy, spinal taps, hospital stays, and

daily medication. He is now in remission! Zaki loves to ride his Avengers bike and is learning three languages—English, Urdu, and Arabic. His favorite subject at school is math and he wants to be a robotics engineer when he grows up. Zaki’s favorite restaurant is Olive Garden; his favorite vacation was a trip to North Carolina. His least favorite thing about having cancer was the needle in his back. Zaki and his family thank LLS for raising money to help kids like him get better.

SETH Pre-Kindergarten

Pine Village, IN Seth was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) in October, 2014. He is still undergoing both oral and IV chemotherapy, but is in remission! Seth enjoys swimming, watching his favorite TV show, Martha Speaks, and eating

chocolate granola bars. He lives in the country and loves to play with their almost 30 chickens and two ducks! When he grows up, he would like to be a firefighter or a teacher. His least favorite part of having cancer is getting needle pokes in his port. One good thing that happened to Seth during treatment was going to Give Kids the World and Disney World in Orlando. LLS has helped Seth’s family by giving them hope to fight for the future and Seth says, “thank you” to those who donate.

TEARCY 7th Grade, Southport Middle School Indianapolis, IN Tearcy was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) in July, 2006. She went through three rounds of chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant. In December, 2016 Tearcy will

celebrate 10 years of being cancer-free! She enjoys swimming and playing her violin. Her favorite school subjects are math and history and she would like to be a doctor someday. Her sister Trinity is her hero because she was a perfect match for her bone marrow transplant. Tearcy didn’t like all the medicine and blood draws during her treatment, but is thankful to LLS for providing support to her and her family in their time of need. To those giving to the Student Series campaign, she says, “thank you for donating.”

AUSTYN 4th Grade, Pittsboro Elementary Pittsboro, IN Austyn was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) in September, 2011. His least favorite thing about having cancer was all the needles. After four years of chemotherapy, he is now healthy and cancer-free!

Austyn’s favorite subjects at school are science and math. He loves penguins and would like to study them when he grows up. He even has the nickname of “Penguin Man” at school! If he could meet any famous person, it would be Blake Shelton because he loves his music. Austyn says, “thank you for participating to help others” to the students collecting donations for Pennies for Patients.

BLADE 9th Grade, New Castle High School

New Castle, IN Blade was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) in September, 2010. He had three and a half years of treatment and many long stays in the hospital. At one point he had to take up to 10 pills at a time. He is now happy and healthy! Blade enjoys hanging out with his friends and likes to cook. When he grows up, he wants to be a Marine. One good thing that happened during his cancer treatment was his Make-A-Wish trip to Hawaii. It was his favorite vacation! Blade says “thank you” to the students and schools participating in Students Series. His family is thankful to LLS for “raising money to help find a cure!”

BRODY 12th Grade, Tri-Central High School

Sharpsville, IN Brody was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) in December, 2005. He endured 40 months of chemotherapy, but is now healthy and cancer free! When asked about the worst part of having cancer he responded,

“Everything…..it’s cancer.” But one good thing that happened during treatment was meeting an ESPN producer who is now a friend and mentor. Brody loves to work on animation software and would like to work with 3D design when he grows up. Brody says to the schools and students participating in this campaign, “Your giving, no matter how big or how small, helps so many fighting leukemia or lymphoma.”

CORA 8th Grade, Woodside Middle School Fort Wayne, IN Cora was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in December, 2014. She is now in remission and has checkups every six months. Cora says that her least favorite part of having cancer was staying overnight in the hospital, but she also met a lot of good friends while there. Cora loves to swim and got to attend the

2016 Summer Olympic Games in Rio to cheer on her favorite swimmers in person! Her favorite subject at school is science and she hopes to be a pediatric oncologist when she grows up. Cora is thankful for students participating in Pennies for Patients because she says it can really help the families of those who are in treatment!

QUINN Formerly Noblesville High School Noblesville, IN Quinn was diagnosed with Marginal Zone Lymphoma in 2003. He underwent a lot of treatment and is now cancer-free! Quinn plays volleyball and enjoys running, once running a 4:46 mile! He is currently studying journalism and hopes to be a sports broadcaster or journalist someday or

possibly a sales/marketing professional. Quinn hated the way people reacted when he told them he had cancer— they treated him differently. But, he says that he learned to speak publicly during treatment and having cancer helped create his “voice.” Quinn says, “One penny can make a huge difference. Thank you because you are helping so many people and literally saving lives. It doesn’t take much and it can go a long way.”

ROWDY 3rd Grade, Bloomfield Elementary

Bryant, IN Rowdy was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) in September, 2010. He went through more than three years of treatment and relapsed in March, 2016. He has achieved remission is still undergoing chemotherapy. Rowdy

has two dogs and a cat and he loves playing video games. When he grows up, he wants to be a welder, just like his dad. Art, gym and math are his favorite subjects at school. An interesting fact about Rowdy is that he likes to make his eyes go cross-eyed. What he likes least about having cancer is that he is always sick, but he appreciates his friends who always tell others to wash their hands to keep him healthy. Rowdy says, “thank you” to the students helping with Pennies for Patients.

MEGAN 5th Grade, Stony Creek Elementary

Noblesville, IN Megan was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) in March, 2015. She is in her maintenance phase of treatment, which includes monthly chemotherapy and regular spinal taps, but is in remission! Megan enjoys

playing volleyball and basketball and loves to draw. Her favorite school subjects are writing reading, and science; her favorite movie is Minions. She would like to be an author someday. If she could meet someone famous, it would be the band One Direction because she loves their music. To the students collecting donations, Megan says, “Thank you for raising money for a great cause.” Megan and her family are thankful to LLS for giving support and information.

OWEN 5th Grade, St Mary’s Catholic School Greensburg, IN Owen was diagnosed with Burkitt’s Lymphoma in May, 2009. After surgery, chemotherapy and other treatments he has been considered “cancer-free” for seven years! Owen enjoys playing video games and would love to meet Dan TDM, a famous “You Tuber” who makes Minecraft

videos. He has a dog named Henry and likes pet sitting for many of his neighbor’s cats and dogs. Owen’s favorite school subjects are technology and PE. His heroes are the doctors at Riley because they saved his life! Owen and his family are thankful to LLS for giving them support and raising money for cancer research, which is possible through programs like Student Series.

ELI 3rd Grade, Grassy Creek Elementary Indianapolis, IN Eli was diagnosed with NLP Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in August, 2013. After six weeks of chemotherapy, three surgeries, and many blood draws, Eli is healthy! An interesting fact about Eli is that he is the only person known to have the cancer on his face. All of the other known cases of this

rare type were on the neck! Eli loves to fish and wants to be a NASCAR driver when he grows up. His heroes are his mom and dad for always protecting him. Eli is thankful to all who are raising money through LLS Student Series. Donations like these helped save his life!

ETHAN

8th Grade, Center Grove Middle School North Greenwood, IN

Ethan was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) in July, 2004. After 36 months of treatment including chemotherapy and spinal taps, he is in remission and in perfect health! Ethan says that he missed hanging out with his friends during treatment, but one positive thing that happened was he learned about giving to others.

Ethan is a big fan of the Kansas City Royals and enjoys playing video games. His favorite subject at school is math and he wants to be an accountant when he grows up. To students participating in Pennies for Patients, Ethan says, “Thanks! Your donations make a difference.” He is thankful that LLS provides research, information and financial support.

LUKE C. 1st Grade, Homeschool Fishers, IN

Luke was diagnosed with Burkitt’s Lymphoma in June of 2014. He underwent seven months of treatment, including eight rounds of chemotherapy and is now in remission! Luke enjoys Pokemon cards, swimming, playing

basketball and watching Teen Titans Go. His favorite food is whole wheat tortellini. When he grows up he wants to be a wrestler. His favorite vacation was a trip to Disney World. One of Luke’s least favorite parts of treatment was the shots, but he liked getting to eat really good snacks. Luke says to the students collecting donations for Pennies for Patients, “You are really nice.” His family is thankful to LLS for raising money through programs like Student Series to research treatments that saved Luke’s life.

MAEVE 2nd Grade, Immaculate Heart of Mary

Indianapolis, IN Maeve was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) in August, 2011 when she was only two years old. She went through two years of treatment and is in

remission now! Maeve’s favorite subjects at school are Spanish, art and library. She enjoys playing with Legos, American Girl, and her school friends. Maeve likes dinosaurs and cowboys as well as dolls and princesses. She would love to meet The Pioneer Woman, the star of her favorite cooking show. Maeve didn’t like losing all of her hair during treatment, but credits her doctors as her heroes because they helped her feel better. Maeve says, “Thank you!” to the schools participating in LLS Student Series.

LAUREN T. 11th Grade, Center Grove High School Greenwood, IN Lauren was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) in March, 2004. She underwent more than two years of treatment— mostly in England. Lauren finished treatment in 2006 and in July she celebrated 10 years as a survivor! Lauren loves to collect Harry Potter

things. Her favorite vacation was to Harry Potter World at Universal Studios. It should come as no surprise that her favorite movies are the Harry Potter series! An interesting fact about Lauren is that she has had 6 different hair colors in the last year. She hopes to be a special effects makeup artist in Hollywood someday. Lauren says to the students participating in LLS Student Series, “Every donation no matter the size can help people like me. Thank you.”

LUKE A. 7th Grade, Fall Creek Junior High School Fishers, IN

Luke was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) in May, 2007. After over three years of treatment, Luke has been in remission for six years! Luke’s favorite school subject is science; his favorite restaurant is

Jimmy Johns. Luke is a third-degree black belt in karate and also enjoys playing outside and reading. One positive thing that happened during Luke’s cancer treatment was meeting so many people who have now become great friends. Luke thanks LLS for giving hope to families like his. “Thank you so much for supporting people that have cancer” is Luke’s message to all of the students donating.

EVELYN 8th Grade, Decatur Middle School

Indianapolis, IN Evelyn was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) in July, 2006. Thanks to treatments and yearly check-ups, Evelyn was considered “cured” as of 2014 and is in

perfect health! Evelyn loves to sing, play games with friends, and participate in activities with her youth group. She is inspired by the music of her hero and favorite Christian artist, Britt Nicole. When she grows up, Evelyn wants to be a singer or a teacher. Evelyn wants every student participating in the campaign to know that the donations are “for a good cause” and that LLS has helped her share her story through Pennies for Patients.

FAITH 11th Grade, William Henry Harrison High School West Lafayette, IN Faith was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) in June, 2009. She underwent two and a half years of treatment including chemotherapy and spinal taps. Those ended in August, 2011 and she is now in remission! Faith

loves to sing, dance, act, play the guitar and write songs and poems. She hopes to be a singer-songwriter someday. If she could meet any famous person it would be Dalton Rapattoni, one of her favorite singers. Faith says, “Thank you!” to the students who are collecting donations. Her family is thankful to LLS for providing resources and information throughout her cancer journey.

GRACE KELLY Freshman, Indiana University Formerly Guerin Catholic High School Noblesville, IN Grace Kelly was diagnosed with Stage 4 Hodgkin's Lymphoma in January, 2011. After four rounds of chemotherapy, radiation, blood transfusions and spinal taps, she is cancer free! Grace Kelly enjoys reading, writing, listening to

music, and spending time with friends. Her favorite vacation was her Make-A-Wish trip to Atlantis in the Bahamas. Grace Kelly would like to tell the students and schools participating in Student Series, “THANK YOU!! You have no clue how much you are helping. Cancer survivors and fighters all around the world are so grateful for people like you.”

KENDALL 7th Grade, Tindley Collegiate Academy Indianapolis, IN Kendall was diagnosed with Philadelphia Positive Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) in February, 2010. She went through three years of treatment including spinal taps and at one point was taking almost 20 pills a day. Thankfully, Kendall is now in remission! Kendall’s favorite subject in

school is math and she wants to be an OB/GYN when she grows up. She enjoys going to the pool and eating at Zaxby’s. Her least favorite thing about having cancer was losing her hair. Kendall says, “Every penny counts!” to the students helping raise money for blood cancer. She is also thankful for LLS for providing her family with information.

LANE 11th Grade, Sheridan High School

Sheridan, IN Lane was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) in August, 2002. He went through more than three years of chemotherapy, many spinal taps and over 1,000 pills, but is now healthy! Lane enjoys playing baseball and

watching sports. His hero is his favorite baseball player, Derek Jeter, because he was a class act both on and off the field. His favorite subjects in school are English and math. He hopes to work in the medical field someday. To the students participating in Student Series, Lane says, “Thank you for helping to fight this disease.” His family is thankful to LLS for helping provide financial support during treatment and for working to find a cure.

LAUREN B. Sophomore, Ball State University Formerly Fishers High School Fishers, IN Lauren was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in February, 2014. She went through chemotherapy, radiation, three lung

surgeries, and a stem cell transplant. She is now in remission! Lauren enjoys reading, crafting, being with friends, and eating sushi. Her favorite classes in school are microbiology and anatomy and she hopes to be a pediatric oncology nurse. An interesting fact about Lauren is she is missing the middle lobe of her right lung! Having cancer helped Lauren learn about compassion towards others. She says, “Thank you so much for your generous hearts” to the students donating to LLS Student Series.
