OUR NADAC TRIAL OUR CPE TRIAL -...

- 1 - SEPTEMBER 2016 Well, the first NOMAD CPE trial is officially over, and what a wonderful, successful first trial it was! We had a limit of 375 runs a day. Saturday was almost filled with over 350 runs, and Sunday had over 330 runs. Pretty amaz- ing for a first trial! Linda will have more stats to share as she finishes up with her Trial Secretary paperwork. The trial site was beautiful and we had many, many competitors com- ment on what a great site it was and how much they enjoyed the trial. The circus tent that came with the field was huge - next year we certainly need to make better use of it and probably offer crating in half of it. It was so nice to not have to set up and take down our big tents! All we needed were two EZ-Ups. The river was easily accessible for both dogs and people to cool off in. We shared the food vendor at the Flea Market, and the food was really good. I heard that their Creemees were delicious, although I didn’t have time to try one. It could be a little slow getting food, as the vendor was already quite busy with the flea market. Something to think about for next year. The trial truly took a village to put on. Much of our equipment doesn’t meet CPE specs (which are also AKC specs), so our dogwalk, teeter, table, tire, double jump and triple jump could not be used. We borrowed Carol Thom’s (Agility Dogs of the Adirondacks) tire, double and triple, the judge’s panel jump and table, Shauna Clifford’s (a student at Show Me the Biscuit and friend of mine) dogwalk and teeter, and Linda Ladd’s dogwalk supports. We can’t begin to thank them all enough! Judy Raffone and Alyssa Todd from Muddy Paws Training Center were invaluable at the score table. We had many, many NOMAD members who came on Friday for setup and yesterday for teardown as well as to the trial without dogs to help out. There were too many of you to remember so I won’t try to list everyone’s names! Thank you so very much for all your help! A special thanks to my Co-Chair, Linda Ladd, for donating Trial Secretary services. Thank you Linda for all your hard work and for a job well done! Another special thanks to Sara McDonald for volunteering to be Ring Manager/Volunteer Coordinator. That was a tough job and you stepped up to the plate and excelled at it. Thank you! Lynne, thank you for your help with transporting equipment from and back to TFL and for the grown-up cooler for teardown yesterday. Nicki, thank you for hauling the equipment from Roberta’s and back and for helping with teardown. John Farr, the owner of the field, was very good to work with. I will be contacting him soon to reserve the site for next years’ CPE trial! Our judge, Doreen Lucius, put together some fun, challenging courses. She’s a great judge - fun and very fair - and we look forward to asking her back in two years. Thank you everyone and I look forward to co-chairing NOMAD’s 2nd Annual CPE Trial in 2017!! Marty From our Southern Contingent, our wonderful course builders: Tom and I wanted to send a huge thank you to you and the entire NOMAD group for a wonderful trial this past weekend. WE had a wonderful time! We send thanks to Lynn von Trapp for hosting the trial at the Trapp Family Lodge - what an incredible site! Randi, you were incredible as trial secretary - it was so well run! Adding the keg of beer was a real treat. I was lucky enough to win several raffle baskets - please forward my thanks to all of the club members who made such great donations! All of the NOMAD club members are so welcoming and hospitable- it is one of the reasons we have this trial on our must go list. We think back on the many years that we have been coming with great memories and we hope to make more memories in the future. Thanks also for the Heady Topper - that is going above and beyond and it is very much appreciated! As I said at the end of this weekend, we are sending positive vibes for your vote for having the trial next year- we have marked the dates and will keep our fingers crossed.Again, we cannot thank you enough. NOMAD STEERING COMMITTEE MEETING 8/22/16Members present: Jen Hammond, Linda Ladd, Judy Kessler, John Marcus, Marty Abair and Tatjana Salcedo

Called to order: 6:00 p.m.

FALL MEETING: It was decided to hold the Fall Annual Meeting on Monday, November 7th at 6:30 p.m. in the Rich-mond Library or Church. Arrangements for the site will be made closer to meeting time. There was a general feeling that the Library might be better because it is a larger space.

The secretary was directed to send requests for committee reports and budgets to the various chairs soon with a deadline for these of October 3rd. The SC is planning to review these and have a meeting to create the budget for the year. This meeting is scheduled for October 17th at 6:00 p.m. the site will be deter-mined later. We are hoping that having the SC involved in the budget creation process will help us understand it and better present it to the full membership.

TREASURERS REPORT: Linda pre-sented an informal review of our financial status as of now. The USDAA trial made approximately $5600. The NADAC trial had an income of around $5800, but there has been no time to figure out profit or loss. The CPE trial has a very good entry with an income of around $8200. They are predicting a profit despite having to

spend a large amount for start-up ribbons and two big worker raffle prizes. As voted by the members in the fall, a printer was purchased for the trial and the club. The laptop has not been purchased because a used computer was found that serves the purpose for the time being.

GENERAL DISCUSSION: The rest of the meeting was devoted to preliminary discussion of some proposals to bring to the Fall Meeting. There was a suggestion that an indoor space may become avail-able to the club for the summer months. Possible uses of this space could be fun matches or indoor practices, if it was available on weekends. There was also a suggestion that we might be able to have a third trial, either CPE or USDAA, again next year in an indoor space. This is all very much a dream right now because many details have to be worked out.

The SC is eager to hear what the membership committee comes up with for the structure of membership in the future. We are hoping that any changes recommended will help us get back to the roots of the club and bring members close together again. We will be look-ing for ideas from the whole membership to further this aim. I have included the objectives of the club as stated in the By-laws to remind us all of our mission and possibly stimulate some thoughts about the future of the club.

Section 2 The objectives of NOMAD will be as follows:

2A) To educate the public and promote humane treatment and training of dogs by holding agility practice sessions, public demonstrations, seminars, matches, trials and other dog related activities.

2B) To do all in its power to promote the human-canine bond and to protect and advance the interests of all dogs, including mixed and rare breeds, through positive training techniques.

2C) To promote good sports conduct, cooperation, and enjoyment among NOMAD members, other agility groups and dog enthusiasts.

Adjourned: 7:15 p.m.

Seminar Committee Meeting will be held at the Richmond Congregational Church. Side entry level.Thursday, Oct 13. 5:00

The Seminar Committee is bringing Anne Andrle from Buxton, Maine, for a NOMAD seminar at Shelburne Field House on October 22 and 23. Come learn in the climate-controlled field house on excellent turf. Many of us know Anne from seeing her at competitions with her dogs Cody (Retired), Ski (Retired), Brisk!, and Super G.

Recently Jen Hammond took a seminar from Anne and loved training with her. According to Jen, Anne is upbeat, funny, and very flexible when working with different levels in the same session. She is very flexible with people who are training with different systems. She is very analytical and really works on your body position. Jen loved working with her.

The cost of the weekend is $2,700, which includes the site rental, Anne’s fees, travel, food and lodging. Charging participants enough to cover all the costs has become prohibitive, and the seminar committee is concerned that club members are not able to participate in seminars due to the rising costs. Recent seminars have not filled.

The Steering Committee has agreed to our request to subsidize this seminar so we can charge $100 for Working Members and $125 for Supporting Members. We hope you will take advantage of this opportunity. The possibility of future subsidies will be discussed at our upcoming membership meeting Nov. 7.

We’ve experimented with workshop weekends, where the sessions are half days with 5 teams in each session. We’ve heard from participants that some of you would like full day ses-sions, which we will do for Anne’s seminar.

We encourage you to participate in this seminar. Registration information is on page 6.

New PuppyFor those of you who haven’t heard the

news....we (quite unexpectedly) have added a new puppy to the family of Kim Rubin. Waifer aka Waif is a 6 month old cattle mix rescue from Random Rescue. She was hand picked for our family.....even though I said we weren’t getting a new dog til spring.....but I couldn’t pass up this gem. The current plan is that Alexis will train and run her...but I’m waiting in the wings to be tagged in at any time

New Dog MemberPlease welcome Jen Kachajian’s handsome

young Malinois boy “Six” to NOMAD. Six is 8 months old and has been in training for 5 months at Show Me The Biscuit in Puppy Agility Foun-dations. He is familiar with the obstacles, with the exception of weave poles. Jen is looking forward to competing with Six in USDAA, AKC and CPE. Welcome Six!

SEMINAR WITH ANNE ANDRLEOctober 22 and 23, 2016, Shelburne Field House

Anne’s goal in teaching is to improve the all-important connection between dogs and handlers. The focus is on teaching you to be the trainer and handler that your DOG needs you to be! Students learn to understand the pressure a dog feels from various obsta-cles, ring set ups, and even from us! The use of ‘directed energy’ is taught to improve the connection and relationship between you and your dog. Anne promotes a healthy, happy and mutually understanding relationship between you and your dog, one that will take you as far as you wish to go, whether that be international level competition or fun at home in the backyard!

This seminar is all about handling. There will be no contact equipment, just jumps, tunnels and weave poles for all levels
