~ Programs ~ The February program will be presented by the out-of-guild teacher, Marti Mitchell. This will be a special treat. Also, we will start the UFO challenge in February. The March program will be a name-tag contest. There will be prizes! Details will be given at the January meeting. Starting in May we will be doing a five month mystery quilt. In September, we will follow Lori Holt’s “Bee Happy” Sew Along on the Bee in my Bonnet blog. She will post a block each Monday. If the Library is available we will met the Saturday following the meeting and at QA at the Bed Warmer quilt shop to work on the blocks (10:00 till closing). The pattern is free but a set of Sew Simple Shapes is needed. The guild will purchase a set for our use at these meetings. I will post a picture of the quilt in the newsletter closer to September. You must be a member to use the set of Simple Shapes. List of programs we have arranged, more in the works:

~ Library Report ~ I hope to have things together by the February Meeting so we can begin to make better use of our library. I've been studying the large selection of quilt block patterns in 101 full-size Quilt Blocks and

Borders by Better Homes & Gardens. This book can be a good source of ideas for the row quilt we will be making in the 5:30 Workshop. Both pieced and appliqued patterns are given for 9" blocks, but most of them can be reduced to a smaller size. This book will be available to you in February; you'll want to CHECK IT OUT. Myrna Yandell

~ Meeting Minutes – January 16, 2017 ~ The Saline County Quilters Guild met on Monday, January 16, 2017 at the Calvary Baptist Church, 612 Valley View Road, Benton Arkansas. 5:30 Workshop – Jean Corley will be instructing us on how to make the Row Quilt that she has perfected since making four of them this past year. She quilted them using the Big Stitch technique that we learned earlier in the year utilizing a Chenille Needle and Pearl Cotton Thread. Sondra Curtis called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. She expressed her excitement for the coming year and wants everyone to share their talent, including more Saturday workshops and increased participation. Jane Hammonds led the opening prayer. Twyla Moore is the new hostess for the sign-in book. No changes were noted to the November meeting minutes or the November Financial Report. Old Business: 1. It was decided that the disbursement of funds

resulting from the Quilt Show will go back into the treasury.

2. The decision for the date of the 2018 Quilt Show will be noted in the newsletter.

New Business:

Done is Good 2017-2018 UFO challenge

Stack Um Up….. Pick 6 of your UFO’s (UnFinished Objects) that you want to complete in 2017 and list them on the UFO form that follows these directions. If you do not have 6 projects just list what you have. Turn in your form along with a $1.00 fee for each of your projects to the UFO chairperson. Please make a copy for yourself. A UFO must be at least 9 months old and something you have not worked on in the last 3 months (i.e., since November of 2016). Roll Um Out… In February, we will roll the dice to determine what project we will be working on first. Note: number 6 will not be included in the dice roll, it will be the last project completed so if you have a big project put that as number six. Example: if in February we roll number 4, your project that is numbered 4 is the one that will be due in April. The February number drawn will be due at the April meeting. The April number drawn will be due at the June meeting. The June number drawn will be due at the August meeting. The August number drawn will be due at the October meeting. The October number drawn will be due at the January 2018 meeting (you will have an extra month due to the holidays). The number six will be due at the March 2018 meeting. Get Um Done… Bring your completed project and register it with the UFO chairperson at the designated month’s meeting. If you cannot be at the meeting find someone to bring it for you. At that time your name will be entered in a drawing for prizes. . .

1 entry if only top completed - no more work will be done on top. 2 entries if top from previous drawing is completed in two additional months. Quilted and bound. 3 entries if project is complete- Quilted and bound.

The only reason we are allowing quilt tops is because sometimes the person doing the machine quilting can’t get it done right away. If you have any questions contact Pat Wade, 501-529-0282.
