My Mama used to tell us all
the time to not do things
“halfway.” Either do them
right or forget it! (Of course
what she really meant was to
keep doing it until it was
right!!!) It’s easy for all of us in this busy,
crazy world to constantly spin our wheels
with jobs, parenting and even church and not
really get anywhere. Our numerous ideas and
projects get started and yes, some get fin-
ished very nicely, but others are there for
another day or another month or never.
Kyle Idleman says “It never was the
size of the crowd that mattered to Jesus, it
was their level of commitment.” And so is
the theme of his overwhelmingly popular
book, Not A Fan.
Our Young at Heart group will
begin the study of this great book on Tues-
day, August 4 at 10:30 AM. Carl Murphy
will lead us in the study until his move to
paradise, and I look forward to studying it
with you. If you haven’t been a part of this
group yet, I invite you to come. It is a great
time of learning and a great time of fellow-
ship with some of our ages 55+ folks. You
will not be disappointed in the reading and
studying this book. Kyle ends his prologue
with this: “I will talk more about repentance
than forgiveness, more about surrender than
salvation, more about brokenness than happi-
ness, and more about death than life. The
truth is, if you are looking for a book about
following Jesus that lays out a comfortable
and reassuring path, you won’t find it here.”
Join us as we pray and study about
being a 100% follower of Christ, not just a
“fan” of His.

For our teachers’ and students’ sake I hate that the summer of 2015 is coming to an end. But
for my sake, I must admit I’m a bit relieved. This summer has been a busy summer. It has been a tiring summer. But I wouldn’t have had it any other way. I’m overwhelmed at what the Lord has done through the peo-ple at Harlem Baptist over the last couple of months. I believe that growth has happened. I can’t wait to see what the fall has in store! At the end of August our youth ministry will again participate in Fall Classic. On August 29-30 students from the Harlem area will gather at Harlem High School for a time of worship and discipleship. This event is open to all middle and high school age students. Parents the deadline to sign up is Sunday August 23rd. The cost of the event is $30 per student. A sign-up sheet is located in the student center as well as outside my office. Don’t wait till the last minute to sign up! In an effort to reach more of our community several area youth minsters have decided to sponsor a 5th quarter immediate-ly following the Harlem High School verus Grovetown football game on Friday August 28th. Our goal is to help the unchurched students in our area see and hear the Gos-pel in a new way. We also hope to get new students to sign up for Fall Classic. To meet that goal we have asked a local Chris-tian rap group called The Lively Stones to give a concert. I’m very excited to see how the Lord is going to use this event to minis-ter to our community. Making an event like this possible requires a great deal of help. If you would like to help with this event please let me know ASAP! It’s going to be a great year! Please remember to be in prayer for all of those going back to school this month!
Press on! Carson

GOD IS GREAT!
Do you remember the old time blessing :
GOD IS GREAT, GOD IS GOOD, LET
US THANK HIM FOR OUR FOOD, BY
HIS HANDS WE ARE FED, GIVE US
LORD OUR DAILY BREAD, A-MEN!
We still use this one in our home today.
Let me share another little prayer with
you that I came up with after thinking
about this one:
GOD IS GREAT, BLESS HIS NAME, I
THANK HIM FOR EVERTHING. BY
HIS GRACE WE CAN SING, THANK
YOU GOD FOR EVERYTHING!
WHAT A GREAT GOD WE HAVE
AND SERVE!!!
I hope you will take time today to thank
Him for everything; I know I do and
always will. We are so blessed to live in
His great creation, but I wonder how
much longer it will stay this way. It looks
like it is deteriorating more and more each
day.
LORD HELP US IN A WORLD THAT
SEEMS TO BE
SLIPPING AWAY FROM YOU. HOW-
EVER, WE KNOW YOU ARE A GREAT
GOD. ALL WE NEED TO DO TO BE
SAVED IS BELIEVE IN YOU, AND
CONFESS YOU AS LORD AND
SAVIOR!
Remember, making someone smile will
make someone forget why they are not
happy.
CHURCH, thank you for letting me serve
as a deacon, and please let me know if
you need me.
