Beloved in Christ,
Greetings from San Francisco. I hope you are doing well. Wel-
come to worship. We welcome Jeff Murphy to the pulpit today.
As you have heard by now, Debra Bevins, our church secretary
of 29 years has resigned her position as of February 19th in order
to move to the Kansas City area to be close to her family. Over
the past ten years, Debra and I have worked well together. She
has been able help and a reliable anchor for our church. She has
provided answers to questions and given perspective where I had
none. Her voice and face has been a welcome presence for
friends and strangers alike. Many of you have called to visit with
her about personal matters because you know she cares.
In the midst of such change, let us remember that God has a plan
for us. Jeremiah 29:11 puts it well: “For surely I know the plans
I have for you”, says the LORD, “plans for your welfare and not
for harm, to give you a future with hope.”
It is okay to acknowledge our loss and to name the pain this
change has brought. Things will be different, no doubt. At the
end of the day, however, let us trust that God is always present
and at work toward God’s plans. And those plans are for our
welfare, and for not for harm. Plans for a future with hope. This
is my prayer and blessing for Debra as she moves forward. It is
also my prayer and blessing for us.
The Lord bless and keep you, always.
