Our Lady of Lourdes School
Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School, (K-8) is changing its curriculum to become a Classical School. Along with these changes, it is reorganizing and rebuild-ing its library. It is starting a Book-Drive for donations of books for Catholic girls and boys. Any good used books will be so appreciated and hopefully will result in an infusion of wonderful reading material. A drop box will be in the church office for this purpose. If you want
to leave your name and phone number, leave it for Lau-rie Conder, and she will get back to you. Thank you, and God Bless.
Music Training Our Lady of Mount Carmel Music Department will have its History conference held in the parish hall at 7PM to 9PM on Monday the 6th of February & Friday the 10th of February. This presentation will go over the changes in style of Catholic music from the 8th century to the present. Announcements:
- The plans for the design and development of phase I of our construction will go to the City for approval on Feb-ruary 15th. The City might have some corrections or re-quests, but it is looking pretty good at this point for ap-proval. There will be a Building Committee meeting at 7 PM in the parish hall, on February 27th for all members of the Committee to review these plans. Full City ap-proval should be received by that time. After that meet-ing, the bidding will begin for the construction. This might take some time, so it is possible that construction will not begin in March, but may be in the first or second week of April. Even if that is the case, April is still an optimal time to begin work, and March is a very good time for bidding. - Two old friends of mine came by the parish to see me last summer, and it was a very joyful reunion, especially since our paths became so different after high school. Mark Nixon, one of my old friends, became a very de-vout Catholic. We played little league baseball together, and the better times of our youth were a great joy to re-visit. Mark died of a massive heart attack a few days ago. Would you please say a prayer for the repose of his soul, and for the consolation of his wife and children? Thank you! - I had a good long talk with a very fine priest who cele-brates only the Ordinary Form of the Mass, but has re-cently discovered the Extraordinary Form and is quickly falling in love with it. This is making his life in his dio-cese very difficult. I remember well what a trial that can
be, with many sleepless nights. Would you please say a prayer for him? - If you've not heard of the story of Master Sgt. Roy Be-nevidez, a son of a Mexican sharecropper who became a Green Beret and was given the Medal of Honor for his service in the Vietnam War, then you are in for an mov-ing story. I was stunned to read of what he accomplished. Ronald Reagan praised him more highly than any other soldier in that conflict, and deservedly so. Rest in peace Master Sergeant! - Here is a pithy explanation of why sacred images are so necessary: "These rich and ancient symbols keep the Di-vine/human connection ever before us so we do not for-get who we are, where we come from and where we are going." Creator Mundi Collection - Never before in U.S. history has the federal government forced citizens to directly purchase what violates their beliefs. HHS created this mandate after Congress asked it to develop a list of services all health plans should pro-vide without co-pay. Instead of keeping with the preven-tion of diseases like breast cancer, sexually transmitted diseases and gestational diabetes, HHS took it upon itself to include sterilizations, contraceptives and abortion- inducing drugs. If we were in the early church, the Presi-dent would have been referred to as an Anti-Christ, like the Roman emperor.
