OUR LADY OF MERCY PARISH MISSION STATEMENT Our Lady of Mercy Parish is a Catholic community that worships God the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, celebrating Mass, proclaiming the Gospel Message and uniting in prayer. We strive to welcome all and to educate ourselves and others in the Good News of Jesus Christ. We support one another in times of joy and sadness and attempt to serve each other by reaching out to those in need in our community and beyond. We are imperfect people on a journey. Our goal is that the life of each person leads to the Lord.

LET US PRAY In your love and kindness please pray for the sick

of our parish, especially: Linda VanSickell, Michael Savianeso, Dr. Margaret Dames, Andrew Velasquez, Daniel Savitsky, Maggie & Quinn McVeigh, and for the prayer requests listed in the book of intentions in the Vestibule.

Please also remember the deceased of our parish especially: Scott Spezial, Robert D. Sullivan, Gloria Myers, Paul Freiler, Christopher Hargat, Patricia Ryan, Edward Ruggieri, Nancy Calise, William Sidlovsky, John Redding and Regina M. Jelling.

Please join with us in praying one OUR FATHER per day for all those who have no one to pray for them.

THE SANCTUARY LAMPS IN CHURCH burn this week in memory of: Roger Friedman, and Special Intentions for healthcare workers.

THE SANCTUARY LAMP IN THE CHAPEL burns this week for those infected with the Covid-19 virus and their families.

If you would like more information about reserving a Sanctuary Lamp in memory of a loved one or for a Special Intention, please call the rectory office at 201-391-5315.

MSGR. TURRO HOMILY

My Dear Friends, Jesus says to you and me: “I am the way” - that is, the way through life’s harshness, its pain and its penal-ties, its fears and failings. All too often this is what we experience in life. Jesus foresaw this and he says to us: “In the world you shall have tribulation” then he adds: “but be of good cheer. I have overcome the world.” how consol-ing these words are! “Be of good cheer, I have over-come the world.” A poet put all this beautifully: “God says: When through the deep waters I call thee to go, the rivers of woe shall not thee overflow. For I will be with you, thy troubles to bless.”

OLM PARISH CARES

Dear My Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Pax Vobis! “Many will be purged, purified and re-fined, but the wicked will act wickedly; and none of the wicked will understand, but those who have insight will understand” (Daniel 12:10). Someone told me the oth-er day that because so many people were quarantined in their homes due to the COVID-19 outbreak, the Xbox servers crashed because so many people had gone online to play Call of Duty or Fortnite or whatever the latest game fad! On the flip side, my sister just told me about scholastic.com, a for-profit organization, who realized that so many people were going to be cooped up inside that they have offered for free virtual learning resources for students in grades PreK—9+ (scholastic.com/learnathome); people have been step-ping up to help out at the Food Pantry; Park Ridge Moms on Facebook have been “Group Shopping” for friends and neighbors! Even in this time of “social dis-tancing,” people are finding ways to serve one another!

In times of difficulty, people tend in two general directions – inwards or outwards – towards satisfying our own cravings and wants and desires or towards seeing the needs of others and doing what we can to help!

Who will we be? May God bless you all during this time! Stay Holy!

And Oremus pro Invicem! In XC,

P.S. I was chatting with some parishioners after daily Mass the other day (don’t worry, 6 feet at all times), and I asked them how they were doing. And they all gave different answers. And then, I asked them how their families are doing. And one fellow said, “I don’t have any family. Everyone is gone.” This Coronavirus will have the effect of isolating people towards loneli-ness, and we as a Church are called to communion with Christ and with one another. I offer the suggestion to all households to call/email/somehow contact your neighbors immediately around you – especially the el-derly, mothers with young children, people without fam-ily – and see if they have need of anything. We are formulating a list of organized groups like those men-tioned above who have stepped up to help. Please check our website and Facebook page for those latest updates! If you are in need of help and cannot find anyone around you, please call the Rectory (201-391-5315) or email the Rectory ([email protected]) or email me directly ([email protected]).

SHINING THE LIGHT OF CHRIST 2020 Annual Appeal Our Goal this year is $105,130. Pledged to date: $67,579. Thank you for your generosity.

In an effort to maintain a safer Church environment we continue our regular daily cleaning and are moving to a monthly change of our HVAC filters as recommended by our maintenance service. We encourage our parishioners to be judicious in keep-ing social distances while visiting the Church as well as following the recommendations of the CDC and our local health offices. The Rectory Office will be open M-F 10-2 The Church will be open 6AM-6PM

IS RCIA FOR YOU? There are many reasons why you may want to become involved in the RCIA. Do any of these fit you?

• I have never been baptized.

• I am married to a Catholic and attend Mass, but just don’t know what the next step may be.

• I have been baptized in another Christian denomination and wish to become Catholic.

• I have been baptized Catholic, but have not received any other sacraments.

Do you know someone who might be interested in being in full communion with the Catholic Church? Ask, encourage and invite them to this program. The journey begins with one small step! For more info, email John Rokoszak at [email protected] https://urolm.org/rcia

POPE’S PRAYER

O Mary, you always shine on our path

as a sign of salvation and of hope. We entrust ourselves to you, Health of the Sick,

who at the cross took part in Jesus' pain, keeping your faith firm.

You, Salvation of the Roman People, know what we need, and we are sure you will provide

so that, as in Cana of Galilee, we may return to joy and to feasting

after this time of trial. Help us, Mother of Divine Love,

to conform to the will of the Father and to do as we are told by Jesus,

who has taken upon himself our sufferings and carried our sorrows

to lead us, through the cross, to the joy of the resurrection. Amen.

Under your protection, we seek refuge, Holy Mother of God. Do not disdain the entreaties of we who are in

trial, but deliver us from every danger, O glorious and blessed Virgin.

TRI BORO FOOD PANTRY is still open and trying to help the community. Limitations at grocery stores are making it very difficult to stock our shelves. Donations can be dropped off directly at the pantry. Questions can be directed to the pantry at 201-573-9083. We are grateful for all non-perishable donations- we are pack-ing bags full of necessities. Needed: canned fruit, canned tuna, macaroni and cheese, all pasta, oatmeal, pancake mix, dried legumes in a bag, peanut butter, jelly, meal in a can like chef boyardee.

First Eucharist Rehearsals Cancelled: All First Eu-charist Parent/Child Rehearsals that were previously scheduled for March 24, 25, 26, have been can-celed. Please continue to work on completing your banners and First Eucharist book assignments at home. As soon as our First Eucharist dates are re-scheduled, we will be in touch about the rescheduling dates of the rehearsals. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact Evelyn Paglieri at [email protected].
