HE EMBRACED THEM AND BLESSED THEM

Today Jesus stresses how children embody the reign of God. They are trusting and loving and have hearts that are open to love. They are joyful when they are made aware of God's love for them, and are eager to return that love. This is the model Jesus holds out to us if we want to welcome the reign of God. We need to have open, lov-ing hearts. We must drop our defenses, however we came by them, and welcome Christ's love for us with joy. This is impossible for us on our own. Only the grace of God will enable us to do this, but that grace is freely and generously given. We have only to accept it.

TODAY'S READINGS First Reading -- The man said, "This one is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; this one shall be called 'woman' " (Genesis 2:18-24). Psalm -- May the Lord bless us all the days of our lives (Psalm 128). Second Reading -- He who consecrates and those who are being consecrated all have one origin (Hebrews 2:9-11). Gospel -- Whoever does not accept the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it (Mark 10:2-16 [2-12]).

Dear Friends, I wrote this letter last Tuesday as the first rain of the new season is falling. It’s good to see the rain again. We certainly need it! I will be giving a short pitch for the AAA this Sunday. We have almost reached our goal of $135,000. For those of you who haven’t already given, now is the time to step up to the plate and give something, anything, so that we can meet our goal. It is not too late! For those who have already given,

thank you from the bottom of my heart. You are the best! On October 16th through the 19th, Father Erick and myself will be in San Francisco for the annual Priests Study Week. This is a mandatory meeting for all the priests in the archdiocese. I have tried to get a priest to come in to cele-brate daily Mass, but there are no priests! Accordingly, I have asked George Jurkowich to hold a Communion Service during those days that we are away. For those of you who want Mass, Mass will be celebrated at st. Anthony’s at 9am on those days. Sorry about the inconvenience. Thank you for your very ositive response to my homily last Sunday. It was a difficult subject to talk about, but the Gospel compels all of us to speak the truth. One parishioner complained that I had taken sides between Judge Ka-vanaugh and Professor Ford. Nothing could be further from the truth! This tragedy, now playing out back in Washing-ton, hs destroyed both peoples and their families lives. Sad! As I mentioned to you last week in my letter to you, October is a very busy month. Here again are some of the highlights in addition to all the great offerings we have in our Adult Faith Formation series (see the flyers in the vesti-bules): : 24 Hour Adoration will take place beginning at 9am Mass on Friday, October 12th, to 9am Mass on Saturday, October 13th, the 101st anniversary of Our Lady’s apparition at Fatima. Adoration will take place in the Church Chapel. Please plan to spend an hour or more with Our Lord, in quiet prayer, during this time. Saturday, October 13th at 6pm: Crab Feed put on by the Knights of Columbus. Saturday, October 20th at 6pm: OKTOBERFEST put on by our School PTG. Wednesday, October 24th at 7pm will be our first Parish Council meeting. Our Council will be composed of 12 members representing the heads of the various Parish Organizations. Sunday, October 28th at the 10am Mass: Children’s Halloween Mass with boxes of See’s Candy going to the best boy and best girl costumes. Thursday, November 1st: all Saint’s Day, a Holy Day of Obligation. Masses at 9am (School attending), 6pm and 7:30pm in Spanish. Friday, November 2nd: All Souls Day. Masses at 9am and 7:30pm in Spanish. Be sure to get your All Souls Envelopes in so that the names of your loved ones can be put on our altar during the month of November. Sunday, November 4th at the 10am Mass: Annual Parish Memorial Mass Thursday, November 8th, at 7pm in the Church: EM’s and Lector’s Meeting. Please plan on attending. Happy Respect Life Sunday !

Padre Brian
