Dear Family,
On the last Sunday of this liturgical year, the Church traditionally brings us back to square one by reminding us
that the “buck” stops with Christ. We may not be able to relate to the notion of a “king,” but we can understand
authority and influence. We also understand that a leader sets a precedent for how they use that power. Are
they rude and overbearing or do they invest into the people they guide, treating them fairly and using their au-
thority to protect the vulnerable? The Gospel today takes us to a moment of Jesus’ life that may not be our first
choice because it is sad and certainly not how we might picture a king, much less the King of the Universe.
One of his fellow prisoners would like him to use His power to get out of the situation. But the other criminal
has a deeper and a more mature faith and so makes one of the purest prayers, “Remember me when you come
into your kingdom.” Jesus is different from other leaders in that He does not promise what others might, but
He is good on His word. Even to the point of suffering with His people, He lifts them up from the darkest
depths. Would that we do the same when we are given authority, proving ourselves heirs to a great kingdom.
In his joy, Fr Daniel

Mass Readings for Week of 11/24/19
Padre’s Corner
Friends, I am happy to announce the celebration of our annual bazaar and función. In addition to helping the parish, I
believe it helps us all to grow closer as a family of faith. In our local cultures and in the culture of Our Lord, it was
important that our worship celebrations be connected with the ritual of eating and sharing together. Is it any wonder why
Our Lord placed the most important ritual, the Mass, in the context of a meal? Let’s join together for some faith, fun, and
food while celebrating who we are as a Marian community under the mantle of La Morenita, Guadalupe! Que Viva!
In His Mother’s Joy, Fr. Daniel
