there will be a 50/50. An envelope is provided for

each month. To play the 50/50, please put $5.00 in

the envelope. The drawing will be held at the last

No es demasiado Pronto para pensar en esta temporada de gran alcance y oración. Encuentro Que Cuaresma siempre llega en

in momento en mi vida que parece tarde o demasiado tempra-

no. Estoy muy feliz d venir a despertarme y a prestar más aten-ción a Dios. Como parroquia haremos lo que hacemos normal-

mente: La Estaciones de la Cruz, un número de conversaciones y un tiempo de retiro También continuaremos teniendo Adora-

ción el Viernes. Este año me gustaría mantener la Iglesia abier-

ta durante la semana hasta las 7 PM o más tarde cuando hayan Misas de noche o reuniones de oración. Les ruego no solo para

tomar ventaja de este plan, sino también para mantener los ojos abiertos para enfrentar cualquier cosa en la Iglesia.

Mientras tanto, aquí están algunos pensamientos de la escritora

Sherry Antonetti en preparación para la Cuaresma ¡Ella ofrece algunos buenos consejos!

Lo primero es el deseo ¿Qué queremos de Cuaresma?, si la

respuesta es crecer en la fe, encontrar a Dios y debilitar nues-tra voluntad para someternos a Dios, debemos prepararnos

para discernir ¿En donde soy débil?, ¿Donde estoy negando a Dios?, ¿Cómo estoy negando a Dios?, si no sabemos las

respuestas, entonces miremos a la Madre de Dios. Ella se eri-

ge como un constante brillar a cualquier otra alma en su dis-cipulado perfecto. María es obediente. Su corazón está abierto

a la Palabra de Dios. María es suave. María es una sierva. María es paciente. María intercede ante sufrimientos graves y

ante las injusticias más graves. María ministra a los demás.

María es valiente. María permanece cuando Hay dificultad. María puede llevarnos a elegir in área en particular que pue-

da ser sobre todo la que nos mantenga con su Hijo. También

podemos preguntarnos "¿Qué les gustaría ver a mi cónyuge y a mis hijos en mi, al final de esta Cuaresma? ¿Qué cambios

puedo hacer en mi mismo que fuera un regalo para ellos? Ahora sabemos lo que tenemos que hacer, y con el Miércoles

de Ceniza, debemos comenzar en serio, y hacerlo. De hecho,

podríamos seguir adelante y comenzar ahora.

Este año estoy probando algo diferente. En lugar de tomar algo nuevo, me estoy centrando en vaciarme y permitir que me

duela ese vacío. No es un proceso fácil. Como adolescente me

di por vencido en un año sin chocolate. Pero luego los sustituí con otros dulces, simplemente cambié de adicción, en lugar de

permitir que una ausencia llamara la atención a una meta de

Cuaresma. ¿Cómo realmente podemos vaciarnos y estar listos para llenarnos de Dios? Debemos dejar sentir el dolor. Así

que si vamos a dejar la soda o los dulces, no compensar con café o aperitivos salados. Permítanse experimentar el males-

tar de la falta. Si consideramos que la Cuaresma va a ser in

viaje en el desierto de nuestras almas, tenemos que tener la piel seca, permítanse sentir la sequedad. Tenemos que ca-

var un agujero en nuestro corazón para desarraigar el pecado y salir de ese agujero para que Dios lo llene.

Se acerca la Cuaresma. Resuelvan para que este año sea va-ciado, para hacer espacio en su alma a Dios y lograr ese gran

trabajo.

From the Pastor’s Desk This coming Wednesday, March 1st is Ash Wednesday. It’s

not too early to think about this powerful and prayerful season. I find Lent always comes at the right time in my life, whether

it seems late or too early. I am so happy it comes to wake me

up and pay more attention to God. As a parish, we will do what we normally do, stations of the cross on Fridays, 40 hour

devotion, extra hours for the celebration of reconciliation, a number of talks and some retreat time as well. We will also

continue to have adoration on Fridays. This year, I would like

to keep the church open during the week until 7PM or later when there are evening Masses or prayer meetings. May I ask

you not only to take advantage of this plan but also to keep

your eyes open if I need to address anything in the church.

In the meantime, here are some thoughts from a writer,

Sherry Antonetti, on preparing for Lent. She offers some

great advice!

What matters first is the desire. What do we want from

Lent? If the answer is to grow in faith, to encounter God,

and weaken one’s own will in order to submit to God’s, we

should prepare by discerning, where am I weak? Where am

I refusing God? How am I refusing God? If you don’t know

the answers, look at the Blessed Mother. She stands as a

brilliant contrast to any other soul in her perfect disciple-

ship. Mary is obedient. Her heart is open to the word of

God. Mary is gentle. Mary is a servant. Mary is pa-

tient. Mary forbears in the face of grave suffering, and

graver injustice. Mary ministers to others. Mary is coura-

geous. Mary stays when it is hard. Mary can lead us to

choose a particular area that might especially be keeping

us from her Son. We can also ask ourselves, “What would

my spouse and my children like to see in me at the end of

this Lent? What change could I make in myself that would

be a gift for them?”

Now, we have the what we must do, and with Ash Wednes-

day, we must begin, in earnest, to do it. In fact, we could

really go ahead and get started now.

This year, I’m trying something different. Instead of taking

on something new, I’m focusing on emptying out — and

allowing myself to ache with the emptiness.

It is not an easy process. As a teen, I gave up chocolate one

year. But then I substituted other sweets. I’d merely

switched addictions, rather than allowing an absence to

call attention to the goal of Lent. How can we really be-

come empty, ready to be filled with God? We must allow

ourselves to feel the ache. So if we are going to fast from

soda or sweets, let us not compensate with coffee or salty

snacks. Allow yourself to experience the discomfort of

want. If we consider Lent to be a journey into the desert of

our souls, we have to allow for our skin to get parched, to

feel dryness. We have to dig a hole in our heart to uproot

sin, and leave the hole for God to fill.

Lent is coming. Resolve this year to be emptied out, to make

room in your soul for God to bring about great work.
