Our CommunitiesCamphill is a worldwide movement of vibrant lifesharing communities where persons with and without developmental disabilities participate in meaningful work, experience a rich artistic and cultural life, and strive together to reach their full potential. Camphill communities value the profound significance of each human being and foster the sharing of resources and responsibilities to enable each individual to contribute actively to the well being of the community.

Our CommitmentCamphill Foundation is committed to grantmaking that grows, strengthens, and safeguards the Camphill movement in North America and worldwide. We fulfill this commitment by working with our communities to keep a pulse on the needs of the Camphill movement, using what we learn to guide the Foundation’s strategic goals, grantmaking priorities and programmatic initiatives. Our commitment includes fostering the long-term sustainability of Camphill’s lifesharing communities and their distinctive model of therapeutic care, while supporting the individuality and unique growth path of each Camphill community and initiative.

Dear Camphill Friends and Supporters,

This year the Foundation was proud to celebrate a half-century of service to the Camphill movement. Thanks to the generosity of our committed family of donors, we have been able to fund new homes and community halls at Camphill villages, underwrite innovative programming and regional cooperation, and recruit and train the next generation of Camphill coworkers. With your help, we will continue to sustain and grow vibrant communities where people with and without special needs share full, rich and robustly inclusive lives.

Highlights of the 2015-16 fiscal year include continuing our commitment to coworker leadership training through our Board Fellows program. Through participation in Foundation board and committee meetings, as well as annual retreats, our Board Fellows are preparing to become the next generation of leaders in our communities in North America.

Additionally, the Foundation hosted the first Camphill Research Symposium at Baruch College in New York City. The goal was to celebrate and stimulate data-rich research on the positive outcomes of Camphill community life. The Foundation also underwrote the first in a series of annual workshops on starting a Camphill-inspired community. Both these events underscore the Foundation’s commitment to increasing Camphill’s engagement with families and researchers interested in growing the number of intentional communities that support people with developmental disabilities.

Finally, our 50th Anniversary Gala broke records for attendance and dollars raised and allowed us to honor former Board President, Donald Meltzer. As an added bonus, our special live ask at the event received a phenomenal outpouring of support, raising an additional $70,000 to directly fund the expansion of the Camphill movement. Your generous efforts resulted in almost a half-million dollars earmarked to support the founding and growth of new Camphill initiatives as well as a final $150,000 grant to Heartbeet Lifesharing’s new community hall!

As we look ahead to the next 50 years of progress for Camphill, we are grateful for the dedicated support provided by you, our donors. Your generosity allows us to make a vision of inclusive community life a reality for over 800 people with special needs in North America and many hundreds more worldwide. Thank you!

Camphill Foundation was formed in 1966 with a mission of supporting two fledgling Camphill communities in Pennsylvania and New York. We have grown

with the Camphill movement and today celebrate 15 Camphill communities and a Foundation endowment of over $9 million. We would never have made it

this far without the dedication of our donors. You have done this. These photos share the growth and change that your support has made possible!

A Note on Endowment Growth:

This year we celebrated our 50th anniversary with a campaign to grow the Jack Acker Fund for New Camphill Initiatives, a fund that was created specifically with the purpose of supporting the founding and growth of new Camphill communities, initiatives, organizations and activities. Thanks to the generosity of our Gala donors and sponsors, we were able to earmark over $425,000 of fundraised dollars for this Fund without compromising the scale and focus of our current granting program. Camphill Foundation strives to provide more children and adults with special needs access to quality residential programs, and through the use of the Jack Acker Fund for New Camphill Initiatives, this goal can become a reality. Thank you to those who donated in support of this important work.

“Camphill Foundation is a critical partner for communities and individuals, with and without disabilities, who would not otherwise have the ability to attend leadership trainings that strengthen all of our capacities to lead Camphill into the 21st century. The Foundation is committed to individuals in the Camphill Movement who are solving social and organizational challenges so that the community values and ideals of caring for the whole person can remain relevant in today’s fast-paced world.”
