Carlyle Continues Breaking RecordsPalo Alto, CA This time around OSU JuniorLaura Carlyle had her own school record in hersights as she toed the line for the 1500m atthe Payton Jordan Invitational at Stanford Uni-versity on Sunday. Carlyle shattered thatrecord, which she set in 2010 with a 4:23.86,by clocking an impressive 4:18.73 and taking

third in her section."It was a great field today. Oregon Statehead track coach Kelly Sullivan said followingthe meet. "She reached another level today.She isn't one to show a lot of emotion, but shewas very happy and excited."

Carlyle ran aggressively from the gun hit-ting opening splits of 69 seconds at 400m and2:18 at 800m, she was never any further backthan fourth throughout the race and battled for

position all the way through the finish line.She told me she turned her brain off and said to herself I really want

this no matter how I feel, a big step for sure, said Sullivan.Cobb Track and Angell Field has become a comfortable venue for Car-

lyle, she broke the school record in the 5000m, by running a 16:19, onemonth earlier at the Stanford Invitational.

Her 1500m effort on Sunday, was only her second of the season, heropening time of 4:26.34 at the Mt. Sac Relays was hampered by a verycrowded and slowly paced race and not feeling her best.

Despite the outcome, I learned a lot from the race at Mt. Sac, whichhelped me accomplish everything I wanted this weekend, said Carlyle.

Carlyle is slated to run the 1500m at the Pac-10 Championships,hosted by the University of Arizona on May 13-14 in Tucson, Arizona.

I had a lot of fun this weekend and cant wait for the next one, saidCarlyle after arriving back home in Corvallis. She now owns four school re-cords total, the others also coming in the indoor mile and indoor 3000.

Redshirt Freshman Audrey Botti has had avery solid 2011 season already, loweringher PR in the 1500 to 4:40, but her 17:19 5000m debut at the Oregon Relays reallyshowcased the type of ability and potentialshe possesses.

Taylor Nowlin also had a big time debutrace in the steeplechase at the JohnKnight Invitational, winning the raceand running a very respectable 11:10. The redshirt frosh also certainly turneda few heads with her aggressive

attacks on the water jump.

Walk-ons Emerging from the Stable

Vets Keep ImprovingSenior Jen Macias continues toget faster each time out in the5000m, running a PR of 16:47 at the MT. Sac Relays.

Senior Hayley Oveson has kept

the PR train rolling, with a 4:35 1500m at the Mt. Sac Relays.Both her and Macias hope tofinish their careers with strongefforts in the 5000m at Pac- 10sand the West Regional, whereOveson hopes to improve her5000m time of 16:34.

Coach Sullivan has had his eye on a runner,who hails from the Oregon Coast like himself, inRaelyn Robinson for a few years. Robinson is a Two-Time Oregon 4A State Champion, 1500m and CrossCountry, and certainly knows what it is like to be partof a winning program at Siuslaw HS. While Raelynwas leading the way for the Vikings, they won threeteam State Championships in Cross Country.

She put together 10 All-State performancesincluding finishing 2nd in the state in the 800m andthree top five cross country finishes in her HS career.She has personal bests and school records of 18:175k cross country, 4:42 in the 1500m, and 2:18 in the800m.

She choose OSU because, Kelly is the coach Iwant to run for without a doubt, he reminds me mostof my high school coach, and that is exactly what Iwas looking for and most important in my decision.Add in the amazing team, the facilities, and Corvallis

itself and Im very excited and feel blessed to be to begoing to OSU.

Coach Sullivan echoes Robinson enthusiasm,about the decision, Im really excited about Raelyn,Ihad opportunities to watch her over last couple years.I feel like she is a great fit, a tremendous talent com-ing from one of the best programs in state history anda great coach, who is a good friend of mine. I want togive a lot of credit to our assistant coach TravisFloeck, who was a key person in recruiting her. Wefeel we have landed one of the top kids in the

northwest and added to an incredible class.
