TIGERRAKS

Over$70,000raised with #Tunes2012

The Ouachita Student Foundationpresented its annual Tiger Traks April13-‐14, 2012. This two-‐day eventincluded numerous types of games.Arkansas’ most exciting college weekendincluded an egg toss, a game center(Pictionary, spelling, etc.), basketballrelay, Steal the Bacon (a relay game),

Tiger Trek (a scavenger hunt), Mega Relay, raft races in the Sturgis Physical Education Center pool, trike races andmud games (tug-‐of war and volleyball).

The Ouachita Student Foundation uses Tiger Traks as their spring fundraiser for scholarships. Last springthere were a record number of teams that were involved with Traks. There were 39 different teams; each teamhad eight members. Each member pays $15 and this money goes towards raising scholarships. The winners ofTiger Traks last spring were “NOW 2012” (first place winners), “The Careers” (second place winners), and “We’veGot…” (third place winners).

The Ouachita Student Foundation revamped Tiger Traks last spring compared to previous years. TheSpecial Events committee split into pairs and each pair was in charge of an event. They looked at what hadworked in the past, what they did not like and made changes that they thought improved the flow of Traks as awhole. One of the improvements last spring was the gain of sponsorships from the businesses of Arkadelphia. This helped the community get involved with Tiger Traks. Looking toward the future, Tiger Traks seems to be thearea where OSF could really impact fundraising for scholarships. OSF’s Special Events committee plans to continueto examine and improve Tiger Traks to fulfill their mission of “Students Helping Students.”

“The Ouachita Student Foundation is an organization on campusthat is making a difference and that loves to see students stay atOuachita so that they can continue to be blessed by such a wonderfulcommunity,” said Hannah Pilcher, a senior secondary education andSpanish major from Little Rock, AR. Pilcher said that being a member ofOSF has had such an impact on her time at Ouachita.

Pilcher is involved with numerous organizations on Ouachita’scampus while still finding time to be an active member of OSF. “Theevents that we host are so large that it does take all of us sacrificing thattime to work together and make the events special. It has been timewell-sacrificed though,” Pilcher said.

Pilcher knew how respected OSF was on Ouachita’s campus whenshe was a freshman and knew she wanted to be a part of thisorganization. “I applied and joined OSF so that I could serve on campusand truly just give back my time and effort to the people whom God hasso very much blessed me with,” she said. Pilcher said her favorite partof OSF is getting to go to collegefairs with the Admissions Office.“I feel honored to be an ambass-ador for Ouachita and to showand tell people about this

wonderful place."

I love meetingnew people

through OSF...

Of those who received an OSF scholarship, one recipientreally stood out.

“I applied for the OSF scholarship because my father lost hisjob in September of 2011. It came unexpectedly. My father thoughthe would have a job by the end of the year, but, consistently, he wasgiven different reasons why he wouldn’t get the job. I knew that myfamily was in need of money to help pay for my schooling, and Iknew that I might get some OSF money, so I applied,” HunterThreadgill, a junior Psychology and Philosophy major from Cordova,TN said.

Threadgill said the OSF scholarship was such a blessing. “TheOSF scholarship is important to me because, knowing that studentsdecide how much money to give to each student, it shows me thatthese students see a tangible need because of my situation and seethat I needed help financially, and through that, they helped meetmy need,” Threadgill said.

Threadgill defines OSF as a ministryopportunity. “Students go out of theirway to make sure that their fellowbrothers and sisters in Christ have whatthey need to both minister to us whilealso helping us prepare for activelyministering to others, no matter whatwe are doing,” he said.

....there are studentsout there who do careabout their fellow

students.

Student Stories

Dear OSF Alumni,As co-presidents of the Ouachita Student Foundation, we are excited to be leading such a

hard working group on campus. At the beginning of the year we set three goals for ourselves andthe members to pursue as we worked diligently to raise scholarship money for our peers. Thosegoals included:

1. Branching outside of OSF and Ouachita with our ideas and visions.2. Connecting within the OSF committees and building community within OSF as a whole.3. Remembering that our “todays mirror our tomorrows,” reminding our peers that what

we are doing with OSF today will be reflected in our lives further on down the road.Last year OSF broke the $100,000 mark for scholarship money. With another successful

Tiger Tunes and hope for continued growth in Tiger Traks, we believe we can raise this muchagain.

Thank you so much for your continued support of this organization and your belief in ourcause. We hope you can connect with this idea of your “todays mirroring your tomorrows” andthat you are able to see the blessings in your life in the present through your work with OSF inthe past. We feel blessed to carry on the same tradition that you did, of “Students HelpingStudents.”

With gratitude,
