Oman is one of the largest oil and natural gas producers in the Middle East and the only non-OPEC (Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries) country in the Middle East that has a free trade agreement with the U.S.

Following the region’s continuing trend towards mega refining and petrochemical integration, the Sultanate is seeing the development of an industry that can support both a net export and a domestic market that manufactures a range of R&D rich products that will reduce dependence on imports.

The government has clearly outlined substantial investments in the downstream sector in its Economic Plan. This is evident in the number of ongoing and proposed major projects to meet rising demand, boost added value to the petrochemicals industry and strengthen its position as an international energy transit center.
