Alice staff welcome new studentsto the 2014 academic year at CDUSTAFF in Central Australiawelcomed more than 50 stu-dents to university life at theannual Semester 1 orientationevening in the higher edu-cation theatrette at AliceSprings campus on Tuesday.
Director Central AustraliaPaul Fitzsimons congratulatedeach student on their courageto pursue tertiary studies, not-ing that these were valuable
years in which they would“glow and grow”.
“The door is always openand we’re here to help,” he saidbefore introducing staff fromStudent Services, the AkaltyeIndigenous academic supportcentre and lecturers from theschools of education andhealth.
“It has been encouragingover successive years to see a
rising trend in attendance atour orientation program andthis year has been no excep-tion,” he said.
“The growth is also beingreflected at post-graduate levelwhere we now have 16 re-searchers studying niche as-pects of life across thecommunity and ecosystem.”
Students were told that a re-cent upgrade of the wi-fi net-
work would give coveragealmost anywhere on campus.
They were also given anoverview of Learnline, the uni-versity’s online learning sys-tem, and taken on a tour of thelibrary.
Representatives from theStudent Advocacy Office andthe organ and tissue authorityDonateLife, also addressed thestudents.
