Crystal engineering of two component molecular nonlinear optical materials
Tatiana Timofeeva, New Mexico Highlands University, DMR 0934212
Molecular cocktails with a twist To make organic crystals useful for TeraHerz Generation (airport screening machines) and Non-Linear Optical applications (optical switches) crystal structure of materials should be acentric. To obtain materials with acentric structure crystal engineering approach was applied. Mixture of two individual organic compounds crystallize in new acentric material which acentricity controlled by specific “twisting agent ”.
So far several acentric materials were obtained and one of them demonstrated significant nonlinearities.
