Page 18: NMHU Presentation Department of Exercise and Sport Sciences Dr. Joe G. Schmalfeldt July, 2008.

Example:

Duchane, K. A., & French, R. (1998).  Attitudes and grading practices of secondary physical educators in regular education settings.  Adapted Physical Activity Quarterly, 15(4), 370-380

Page 19: NMHU Presentation Department of Exercise and Sport Sciences Dr. Joe G. Schmalfeldt July, 2008.

The results of the majority of this type of research indicates that the attitude toward students with mental retardation and emotional disturbances was less favorable than teaching students with learning disabilities.

Page 20: NMHU Presentation Department of Exercise and Sport Sciences Dr. Joe G. Schmalfeldt July, 2008.

The problem with these results are that the schools and society are moving toward an integrated/ inclusive model . . .

Page 21: NMHU Presentation Department of Exercise and Sport Sciences Dr. Joe G. Schmalfeldt July, 2008.

Teacher education programs need to drastically change the attitudes and training of our pre-service teacher candidates to meet the needs of ALL the diverse students that will interact with during their teaching careers.
