My goals for this teaching position at NMHU . . .

1. Update the Department’s NCATE/NASPE document

NASPE reviewer (Spring 2006)

2. Create a PETE Student Teacher Handbook

3. Infuse technology throughout the department’s curriculum and student teaching program

4. Active research interest in attitudinal changes in pre-service teacher candidates from Intro PE course to the Dept’s Capstone Course

Example:

Duchane, K. A., & French, R. (1998).  Attitudes and grading practices of secondary physical educators in regular education settings.  Adapted Physical Activity Quarterly, 15(4), 370-380

The results of the majority of this type of research indicates that the attitude toward students with mental retardation and emotional disturbances was less favorable than teaching students with learning disabilities.

The problem with these results are that the schools and society are moving toward an integrated/ inclusive model . . .

Teacher education programs need to drastically change the attitudes and training of our pre-service teacher candidates to meet the needs of ALL the diverse students that will interact with during their teaching careers.

2- Language (MS definitions)

3- Content (PE scenarios)

5. Create an on-campus & community-based elementary PE & disabled lab component for the Physical Education courses.

6. Become involved at the BOD level of NMAHPERD similar to the positions I held in Louisiana & Wisconsin
