What Makes Oracle the Best Place to Work and Why?
Oracle is an American based technology company that operates in several countries
around the world. It is headquartered in California and offers data management services to both
big and small businesses. Working at Oracle comes with numerous benefits to employees, and as
such, I believe it is the best place to work. A large number of companies focus too much on
clients, and the famous ‘the client is always right’ phrase to the point that they neglect the needs
of employees. Organizations need to look into the needs of both parties and ensure their needs
are met (Zablah et al., 2016). Oracle has in place principles and practices that ensure satisfaction
from both employees and clients. In this paper, I will highlight why Oracle is an excellent place
to work.
Fundamental Driving Forces that Shape the Organizational Environment of Oracle
One of the things that make Oracle stand out is the number of people the organization
serves. Oracle operates in 175 countries in the world, therefore offering services to such large
amounts of businesses. It competes globally with well-known companies like Microsoft. The
company has received numerous global recognitions for its exemplary work. As of 2018, the
company’s revenue was at 39.83 billion USD, which shows it is quite successful. When it comes
to technological innovations, Oracle has been at the forefront of coming up with new technology
for data storage. The company has put into use human interface and artificial intelligence
technology to promote better cloud services. In addition to that, the company constantly carries
out research to come up with new innovations to offer clients better services. Employees are
encouraged to be innovative and even receive awards for coming up with new technological
advancement ideas. It is also exciting to work with this organization because it regularly builds
ORGANIZATIONAL ENVIRONMENT 3
the capacity of its employees through regular training. This ensures employees remain relevant in
the constantly changing technological times.
All employees at Oracle are expected to adhere to the set practices and code of conduct.
One of these conducts includes fairness and ethics when conducting business. This means that
they are not expected to practice behaviors such as fraud or theft, as that would result in
dismissal. The ethic of fairness requires that the company does not extort money from clients in a
bid to make an excessive profit by making their products extremely expensive. They, therefore,
have standard prices for their products across their areas of operation. The company is also keen
on ensuring clients get quality products and services and value for their money. As a result, its
employees receive top-notch training to match client needs.
While Oracle is a good company, it has been under scrutiny for not having a very diverse
workforce. In 2017 it was sued for discriminating against minorities such as blacks. According to
the U.S Department of labor, the company allegedly withheld at least $400 million worth of
wages from minority workers. In response to this, the organization has put in an effort to rectify
this situation. As of today, there has been more diversity in its workforce. The organization
carries out frequent audits to ensure it complies with workforce diversity requirements
Influence of Oracle’s Practices /policies on Individual and Organizational Outcomes
Oracle deals with organization data, which could be very private and confidential. As a
result, one of their most important policies is privacy policy. This policy provides guidelines to
employees on the use and dissemination of client’s data. All employees are required to adhere to
ORGANIZATIONAL ENVIRONMENT 4
this policy or else could face legal action. This policy gives clients confidence that their data is
safe and therefore attracts them to the organization. The Oracle code also stipulates acceptable
practices and behavior that employees are required to adhere to. One of these practices is
compliance with laws and regulations in their areas of practice. As mentioned before, oracle
operates in many countries. All these countries have their own laws regarding business practice,
which the organization is expected to follow. Such laws can also protect employees from
harassment by governments or other authorities. For instance, when employees have adhered to
regulations such an immigration and work permit laws, the government cannot harass them.
The company adheres to the safety and protection policy. This policy exists to promote a
safe working environment free from any hazards that could endanger the employee’s lives. A
safe work environment significantly contributes to an increase in productivity among employees
(Hanaysha, 2016). When employees are sure of their safety, they will serve clients better. This
contributes overall to customer satisfaction. There is an anti-discriminatory policy within this
company that ensures all employees are respected and treated equally. Discrimination of
employees not only creates a negative image of any particular company but also creates a toxic
work environment that affects the quality of services. There is also a financial cost of
ORGANIZATIONAL ENVIRONMENT 5
discrimination as companies can get sued. From its experience with legal action resulting from
discrimination, Oracle is keen on promoting equality and fairness.
Last but not least, the company is keen on recycling to promote environmental
preservation. It has in place a Reuse, Reclaim, and Recycle strategy that encourages its clients to
recycle products to protect the environment. The company encourages clients to return old or out
of use oracle products to their headquarters for recycling and proper disposal. This practice
instills the value of environmental protection responsibility to both clients and employees. In a
world where the effects of environmental pollution are increasing day by day, I believe this
practice is necessary.
Practices Related to Work Attitudes in U.S. Organization Affected by diversity
Workforce diversity is often accompanied by employee discrimination (Flake, 2017).
Employees from different backgrounds may face harassment, intimidation, or segregation at
workplaces. This may result in low productivity among discriminated employees. To address
this, organizations need to create practical policies that can promote a pleasant working
environment. The policies should have in place disciplinary action for employees who fail to
ORGANIZATIONAL ENVIRONMENT 6
adhere to serve as an example to other employees. For instance, employees who discriminate
against others can be terminated and or given warnings. Sometimes, employees are
discriminative out of ignorance. In line with this, It is essential to educate and sensitize
employees on diversity and inclusion. This could help them interact better and create a better
working environment.
