ICDI with the partnership of National Rural Development Program (NRDP) implementing training material development &community midwife training program in District Narowal Punjab with the support of UK partner organization “Feed the minds” secured funding from the big Lottery fund to support the project HELP (Health Education and Literacy Project) for women. The primary objective of the project is to reduce the maternal & Infant mortality rate through provision of basic health care services

Sustainable Improvement in Water, Sanitation & Hygiene (WASH)

In August 2013, ICDI (with the support of MISEREOR) has initiated a project at U.C. Aza Khel Payan, District Nowshera; with an overall goal to bring a Sustainable Improvement in WASH situation of the targeted community through:

ICDI & SPO (December 2013 – March 2014)

Stepping towards Peace Building and Interfaith Harmony

ICDI in support with SPO (Strengthening Participatory Organization) has initiated an activity on Peace building & Interfaith Harmony. The prime motive of this intervention is focused on developing a message on interfaith harmony and peace that is to be prepared by a committee of religious leaders, educationists, civil society activists and media personnel(s) of diverse ethic/ religious groups from the urban

areas of District Peshawar.

The awareness sessions at school level focused the young and adolescent children (students) who have access to unreliable information and sources that are feeding their minds with sectarianism and fundamentalism. The awareness sessions on Peace building and interfaith harmony helps them to understand need and methods of promoting peace and harmony in their respective institutions and equips them with the skills to understand different perceptions in the society.

ICDI & Aurat Foundation (December - 2013)

Research study conducted on Anti-Women Practices Act, 2011” in District Mardan

ICDI in support with Aurat Foundation carried out a short research study on Anti-Women practices in District Mardan; the key objective(s) of the study was to: Assess impact of Anti-Women Practices Act, 2011 at District Mardan. To highlight these issues so that they could be projected at Local, Provincial and national level.

ICDI and its team conducted FGDs (focus group discussion) and interviews with following individual(s)/ stakeholder(s):

GBV victims;

Police Officials;

Medical Legal Officers (Doctors);

Public Prosecutors;

and Human Right Defenders.

The research results enlightened that number of anti-women practice and GBV case are very high in District Mardan; but due to cultural restrains and absence of knowledge and awareness regarding anti-women practices act 2011, both in women and enforcing agencies is leading the local women highly vulnerable.

Break the Silence against Harassment at workplace Capacity building, Social Mobilization, Campaigning, Advocacy and linkages: ICDI in support of SPO completed a short project in order to give awareness to Christian community Working Women & Girls in 3 Urban union councils of District Peshawar, that is to break the silence on Harassment and having Knowledge of Rights and Laws protecting them from Harassment/ Sexual/ Abuse/ Harassment at work places.

In this regard ICDI established and provided capacity building trainings to 3 Working Women Support Groups (WWSG). Developed linkages with Social Welfare Department and credible NGOs and organized Awareness Seminars and disseminated literature on harassment issues & preventing laws.

Capacity Building of Flood Affected Women in DRR & DRM

Establishment and Capacity Building of Women DDR & DRM Groups

at District Nowshera (November, 2012 to February 2013) ICDI in support with Isis. WICCE established 2 Women group on DRR & DRM, i.e. Disaster Risk Reduction and Disaster Risk Mitigation. This project was carried after conducting a research study on the “Impact of disaster

on women and girls of KPK”. This finding of the report recommended to provide capacity building training on DRR and DRM to the flood affected women in District Nowshera. Thus these trainings took place from November 2012 till February 2013; one at urban area and other at a village. 2 Women groups were established; these groups were provided 10 days extensive capacity building training on DRR (Disaster Risk Reduction) and DRM (Disaster Risk Management). Both the groups were linked with the DDMU (District Disaster Management Unit) for sustainability.

Rehabilitation of Flood Affected Families (2010) Housing and Latrine Support Project for Flood affected families of District Nowshera: ICDI with a goal to reduce vulnerability of the marginalized community(s) of KPK carried out a Damage & Need Assessment survey and indentified 104 families who had lost their houses during flood (2010). As an initiative ICDI in support with MISEROER has provided assistance in room and latrine construction to 35 most vulnerable families (275 individuals) of floods (2010) affected area that is Syce Mandi (Risalpur) District Nowshera. The targeted families have been provided with a safe and

improved hygienic environment with the provision of 1 concert room and 1 low cost latrine each.

Capacity Building of Women and Girls from Floods affected area in KPK Women and girls are more vulnerable during disasters and marginalized in their access to relief resources. Women constitute majority of flood/ disaster victims and yet they are excluded from participation in disaster relief and their voices silenced resulting in violation of rights at large.

ICDI & Blue Veins in support with “Isis. WICCE” carried out a “Research study on Impact of Climate Change/ Floods on Women’s life in KPK”; depicting problems and issues faced by women and girls during and after the floods and focusing their short and long term needs. The report was presented at the last phase of Isis. WICCE international conference in July 2012 at Uganda. After reviewing the report Isis. WICCE is supporting ICDI and Blue Vein to start inventions for the rehabilitation of Flood affected Women and Girls in District Charsadda and Nowshera KPK. This project will focus on the capacity building of women and girls; thus session on Disaster Risk Reduction and Disaster Management will be organized and Women Disaster Management Committee will be formed for the sustainability of the project.

Routine Activities (Capacity Building and Awareness Raising):

Awareness raising sessions on Peace building and Conflict Management with the Christian youth groups living in urban areas of Dist. Nowshera, Peshawar & Mardan;

Awareness session with women and girls in District Peshawar and Nowshera on Women rights and Violence against women;

Formations of women support group and women friendly space at Syce Mandi, District Nowshera;

Awareness on Health and Hygiene; currently focused on prevention of Dengue Virus; a large scale campaign has been carried out to aware people, how to remain safe from Dengue at public places, slums, shops, warehouses, schools etc.

Flood 2010 Relief Activities in District Charsadda, Nowshera and Peshawar

Distribution of Winterization Kits, Hygiene Kits, Free Medical Camps and Hygiene Awareness

After 2010 disastrous floods in KP and FATA, ICDI immediately launched emergency & relief services and carried out following activities from September 2010 to April 2011.

Distribution of 500 Winterization kits for the vulnerable families.

Free medical camps provide health care to more the 3500 flood affected people in District Charsadda, Nowshera and Peshawar

Health hygiene sessions and 1000 health hygiene kit included (Soap, Towel, tooth brush and toothpaste) were distributed among affected families of district Charsadda and Nowshera.

Food commodities were distributed in UC Agra and Pari Payan of District Charsadda

Nutrition, Breast feeding sessions and nutrition packages included (Rice, oil, sugar, milk, micronutrient & folic tabs) were distributed among pregnant and lactating.

Food commodities were distributed among flood affected population on Eid in Mohamand agency

ICDI and Action Aid

Women Empowerment

One of the ICDI’s main objectives is to facilitate and provide all the possible social and economical opportunities to the women and girls; in order to strengthen their capacities ICDI in support with Action Aid – Pakistan;

Sensitized more than 16400 women, girls, female teachers, community elders and influential(s) through awareness raising sessions, seminars, interactive theater and capacity building trainings on women rights and Violence against Women (VAW)

Formed 10 women support groups in rural and urban slum areas of District Peshawar and Syce mandi District Nowshera that supported 1500 women. In these sessions Women support groups identified more than 50 Gender Base Violence (GBV) victims (including early marriage, forced marriage, rape cases, and domestic violence and Sawara cases).

Vocational training centers were established for women and adolescent girls in Urban and rural area of Dist Peshawar, 220 women and girls were trained, out of them, 27 girls are now earning bread for their families.

Sensitized more than 1200 students on Life Skills Based education awareness rising sessions at public & private schools in urban areas of District Peshawar It was focused on broader issues of child and adolescent vulnerability, health and well being, along with other social issues, to which life skills are being applied

Universal Children Day November 20, 2009

20 November, marks the day on which the UN General Assembly adopted the Declaration of the Rights of the Child, in 1959, and the Convention on the Rights of the Child, in 1989. ICDI with Action Aid – Pakistan organized one day activity at Elizabeth Girls High School, Peshawar. More than 400 participants, included Students, teacher, representatives of Civil Society, NGOs, Government and Media from District Peshawar participated in this event.

The Global Call to Action against Poverty (GCAP) is a growing worldwide alliance consisting of national coalitions (or platforms) of campaigns to end poverty. It is involved with some 38 million people in actions in 2005 in over 75 countries and 23 million people in 2006 in over 85 countries.

In 2009, ICDI signed a MoU with GCAP – Pakistan to enhance its actions and organized following Activities/ Events:

Meetings with important Stakeholders;

Conferences;

Consultation meeting at provincial level;

Consultation meeting on MDGs (Shadow Report);

Press Briefing;

Distribution of material (Printed);

Walk/ Rally;

Focus group Discussion with Women (Rural & Urban).

These event/ activities are one of the thousands being held around the worlds as part of “ Stand Up, Take action, End poverty Now, citizens across the globe are demanding that world leaders keep the promises they made in the year 2000 to achieve the millennium development goals . The goals are set of 8 benchmarks to:

Eradicate extreme poverty;

Achieve universal primary education;

Promote gender equality & empower women;

Reduce child mortality;

Improve maternal health;

Combat major diseases;

Ensure environmental sustainability;

Develop a global partnership for development by the year.
