Tips for a successful year at Andover Middle School!

Just a few organizational tips will help your child

have a very successful year at AMS!

Supplies ● Key items needed for every class, every day

○ Pencil

○ Paper

○ Binder

○ Textbook (if checked out)

○ Agenda with conduct card

○ AR Book

Agendas ● Students should bring their agenda with them to every class

○ Great way to remember homework

○ Write down upcoming quizzes,tests, or projects

○ Show what they are learning in class

○ Contains passes to leave the classroom

○ Spot for conduct card placement

● Great way to keep up with what your child is doing in class!

○ Teachers have an agenda each day

Lockers ● Students should keep unnecessary items in their lockers during class

○ Extra textbooks

○ Cell phones

○ Coats

○ Backpacks/purses

● Important to keep lockers organized and clean

Passing Periods ● Students will have 4 minutes between classes. They should use this

time to:○ Go to their lockers

○ Restroom/Drink

○ Quick time to socialize!

● First couple of weeks are more lenient

Conduct Cards ● Discipline system of AMS

○ Needs to be brought to every class

○ Starts with blue card

○ Each card has 5 spots for behavior violations

■ Comments written by teachers

■ Check on your child’s card to see how they are doing

○ Consequences increase as students go through cards

○ New card given 2nd semester

○ Blue card party at end of each semester! (Prizes, games, candy!)

Ramp Up to Readiness ● Class only offered to 6th graders.

● The RAMP program stands for choosing Rigor, gaining Access, maintaining Motivation, and practicing Persistence. It is to help students develop knowledge, skills and habits for success in middle school, high school, and after.

● We will be working on binder and locker organization, using agenda and calendars for reminders, having a library book with us at all times, and participation in class lessons that will help us to prepare for the year ahead and the ones to follow. The students will be assessed on these items.

Keeping up!● Powerschool

○ Check your child’s grades, missing work, progress, etc.

○ Powerschool app! Quick updates!

● Weekly e-mails

○ Most teachers will send weekly/bi-weekly e-mails

○ Make sure most current e-mail is in Powerschool

○ Teachers like to get feedback also, don’t be afraid to respond!
