Dreams are made of wishes...

We can wish alone, or we can wish collec-

tively. But if we wish long enough, we build

a dream.

Our dream for a better Orange County is

one shared by many, and one upon which

many are willing to help build the reality of

that dream.

The Orange County Community Founda-

tion and its associates are proud of our

home and proud to be a part of making the

dream of a better Orange County come

true.

There’s still much to be done, but the first

steps have been taken, and the dreams

and wishes continue to grow. Dreams are

made of wishes, and wishes are born of

hope. And we have plenty of all of three.

DOUG PITTMAN

President

IMOJEAN DEDRICK

Executive Director

Building a dream starts with

one step...

..and each successive step brings that

dream closer to reality. Thanks to our do-

nors, the Orange County Community Foun-

dation has been doing just that for the past

13 years...building the dream for a better

Orange County.

Through traditional and proactive grant-

making, collaborations, special program-

ming, community involvement and many

other avenues of action, your community

foundation has been plucking dreams from

the imagination and re-creating them as

realities in our community.

Keep dreaming, Orange County. And we’ll

keep building on your hopes for our home

community.

TOGETHER WE CAN ALWAYS

ACHIEVE MORE…

The power of collaboration is a dream-

maker in itself. What can be accom-

plished when many work together toward

one goal is not just the power of num-

bers, but the power of passion, spirit and

community.

Orange County and her people benefit

greatly from the many collaborations that

OCCF participates in each year. Collabo-

rative efforts in fund-raising have benefit-

ted such groups as Springs Valley Edu-

cation Foundation, Orange County Play-

ers, BHOC Foundation, the Good Sa-

maritans, the OCCF Youth Council and

more.

Community foundations from five coun-

ties in south central Indiana—including

our own—combine their efforts each year

to recognize outstanding philanthropists

in each county through the “Women in

Philanthropy” program.

The Foundation’s three supporting or-

ganizations provide funding for many,

many programs and projects throughout

the county, as well as assistance in vari-

ous areas of expertise and incentives for

education.

A non-profit symposium, open to all Or-

ange County non-profits, was provided

and allowed area charitable organiza-

tions to collaborate and share ideas,

goals, ways and means of building solu-

tions to issues facing the people here.

Throughout the year, OCCF worked with

the county school systems in providing

snacks and pencils during ISTEP testing

and funding toward shoes and other

items for needy children.

Acting as administrator for the Orange

County Development Commission,

OCCF was pleased to assist in promot-

ing economic and municipal growth and

development throughout Orange County.

Dreams are many, so it takes us all to

make them come true.

17

THE FUTURE OF

PHILANTHROPY…

...is in the hands of our youth. And mem-

bers of the OCCF Youth Council are

busy preparing both themselves and all

of Orange County’s school students to

carry the banner of charity in years to

come.

Now in its eight year, the Youth Council

education series reaches out to fourth

graders county-wide, teaching them the

meaning of philanthropy and how to be-

come a philanthropist. Each classroom of

students chooses a project at the end of

each year’s program, and either contrib-

utes to a charitable organization or pro-

vides charitable services. This year’s

projects included visits to nursing homes,

essays on philanthropy, clean-up pro-

jects, and much more. To start the sea-

son out each year, class members are

taught the philanthropy cheer, “The word

for ME is PHILANTHROPY!”

Through its own fund-raising efforts and

its own endowment fund, the Youth

Council provides grants to area non-

profit agencies through an annual cycle.

During the 2008-2009 fiscal year, the

young people gave away $2,600 to five

non-profit organizations or charitable

causes that serve the needs of Orange

County.

To further recognize philanthropic en-

deavors in Orange County, the Youth

Council hosts an annual Golden Deeds

banquet, which honors several volun-

teers who have been nominated by their

peers for the designation.

Volunteers themselves, the Youth Coun-

cil members have rung Christmas bells

for the Salvation Army, assisted with the

area Holiday Market, and served meals

during the Orange County Players’ an-

nual Cabaret event.

The OCCF Youth Council is not only

paving the way for future philanthropists,

but is raising the bar for all of today’s.

19

DEBBIE TURNER

2009 Female Philanthropist of the Year

Debbie began her involvement here with the Orange County Economic Development Committees, helping to identify specific needs within the county. From that involvement, she became a driving force in the Orange County Home Grown initiative, and has remained a very important asset to the organization. Deb-bie also serves on the Orange County Convention and Bureau

Board of Directors, as well as volunteers for the Orange County Humane Society.

CHRISTI MORGAN

2009 Emerging Female Philanthropist of the Year

Personally committed to her community and family, Christi has volunteered with the Orleans Kiwanis Club, the Orleans Lions Club, and has served on the Board of Directors of Orange County Habitat for Humanity. She is active in her church’s youth programs, serves as church secretary and treasurer, and finds time to coach soccer and mentor stu-dents. The mother of two active sons, Christi supports ac-tivities and programs of the Cub Scouts and has served as a volunteer grant-writer for the local pack.

PHIL MININGER

2008 Male Philanthropist of the Year

For many years, Phil has served as President of Orange County Habitat for Humanity, and as pastor for the Paoli Men-nonite Fellowship. A skilled carpenter as well as a minister, he

has helped oversee construction of numerous homes for needy families in the county, as well as spear-headed many of

Habitat’s many fund-raising and marketing endeavors. His helping hands have carved a legacy of giving throughout Or-

ange County.
