Dearest brothers and sisters:

All good giving and every perfect gift is from above. James 1:17

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, It’s amazing how fast the summer goes, isn’t it? It seems like I was just presiding at graduation, and now the school year has been up and running for a couple of weeks already! I hope you had a wonderful summer. Around the parish, lots of great things have been happening. As our relatively new campus gets to its second decade, things start to go wrong. A couple of the air conditioning units on the roof had to be replaced over the summer, and the cost for one of them was offset by insurance as it was caused by a power surge, so we are grateful for that help. We are also starting to improve the campus outside, thanks to the donations of several people who are taking part in our naming opportunities. Recently, the diseased pine trees on the north side of the campus have been removed, along with some other dying and problematic trees in other locations, and new trees will be up in their place. Our outdoor stations of the cross will be coming very soon, as Andrew DeGala was able to raise more than enough to cover his costs (and with the remainder, will be purchasing one of the named stations in honor of the parish). I can’t wait to see that lovely devotional pathway completed! And an upcoming project will take place on Make a Difference Day: the circular planting bed outside the commons will be replanted with low maintenance plants, and a cross, that had been on top of the bell tower before the tornado, is being returned to the campus and will be installed in the center of that bed. Over the summer, our wonderful maintenance staff worked very hard to deep clean the building, and floors and classrooms were all gleaming to welcome our students back. I was able to visit several classrooms whose teachers had given their rooms a wonderful welcoming environment. During the summer, we had a wonderful RCIA training institute put on by a national RCIA training team, and a very successful Vacation Bible School, thanks to a team of awesome volunteers. Also, last week, we celebrated the ordination of Deacon Mike Perkins as a Permanent Deacon here. I am so grateful for our Permanent Deacons who help in so many ways, and also grateful to Father John who has agreed to take on organizing their ministry and fellowship. Saint Mary’s doesn’t close down for vacation in the summer! Speaking of RCIA, we are looking forward to a group of about ten people, adults and children of catechetical age (over 7), who will be baptized into the Church this coming Easter Vigil! I am so grateful to our RCIA team and our Religious Education Program who have been preparing these folks for the sacraments so faithfully! At the rectory, it’s just me, Father Mike and Father John right now. But we will be welcoming three men during the year who will be in various parts of their formation: • Ramon Sida will return here for field education until he leaves for his Holy Land exper ience after Chr istmas.

God willing, he will be ordained to the transitional diaconate in March. • Chris Aust will also be here for field education, and then will begin his full-time parish internship here in

February. • Tom Logue is a fir st year theology student at Mundelein and will be doing his field education here this year . So, all of that being said, I am very grateful for all that God has done and continues to do among us! Yours in Christ and His Blessed Mother, Father Pat Mulcahy, Pastor

Najdrożsi bracia i siostry: Wszelkie dobro pochodzi z góry.

Latem nasza wspaniała ekipa pracowała bardzo ciężko, aby gruntownie wyczyścić I wysprzątać budynek, aby podłogi i sale lekcyjne lśniły przed rozpoczęciem nowego roku szkolnego.

Jeśli Bóg da, zostanie on wyświęcony na przejściowy diakonat w marcu.

Wasz w Chrystusie i Jego Najświętszej Matce, Ojciec Pat Mulcahy, Pastor

Planned Gifts Fall is a great time to consider your legacy. Whether you are creating your initial will or updating an existing one, consider a bequest to St. Mary Immaculate in your estate planning.

Other planned gift options include Life Insurance Gifts, Charitable Remainder Trusts, Charitable Lead Trusts, Life Estate Arrangement, Lifetime Giving, IRA distribution, and many more. Consult your tax and /or financial planning professionals to determine which giving plan is appropriate for you. Thank you for your continued generosity to St. Mary Immaculate.

“Time spent in prayer is never wasted, however urgent the duties that press upon us from every side. Contemplation of the mysteries of the Rosary releases all their saving power, and it conforms, unites and consecrates us to Jesus Christ.”

CCW HAPPENINGS

We would like to invite All the Women of the Parish to join us at 12:30 - 2:30 on Thursday, September 6th, in the Faith Sharing, Harvester Rooms.

Council of Catholic Women (CCW) is a long-standing Catholic Women’s Organization at St. Mary Immaculate, and we continually strive to bring more members “into the fold” with our interesting meetings. Our CCW Board has put together a wonderful “Calendar of Events” for the 2018-19 year. For this fir st meeting, and in keeping with the celebration of the Blessed Virgin Mary’s Birthday, we are very happy to have Mary Kay Burberry, the Director of Religious Education at St. Francis of Assisi Par ish in Or land Park. Her presentation on “Flowers and Legends of Mary” should be very worthwhile and interesting. All this plus Prayer, Fellowship and Desserts. If your schedule doesn’t allow you to be there for the entire meeting, please don’t worry about coming late or leaving early. We understand!! For assistance in any way, please contact Mary Jeanne Pazin at 708-606-7515 or [email protected].

One last request: if possible, try to bring a friend and have a nice afternoon together!

Our Family in Faith

Christians everywhere are asked to unite in prayer for the 2018 intentions entrusted to us by Pope Francis. Apostles of Prayer offer themselves to God each day for the good of the world, the Church, one another, and the Holy Father’s Intentions.

Pope Francis’ monthly prayer intention for September: Young People in Africa

Than young people in Africa may have access to education and work in their own countries.

Suggested Daily Prayer: Father, Here I am. I know you are always with me. I place my heart in the Heart of your Son Jesus, who gives himself to us in the Eucharist each day. May your Holy Spirit strengthen me to live the Gospel in everything I do and say. For my part I give you this day—all my prayers, works, joys, and sufferings— all I am and possess. With Mary, Mother of the Church, I pray for the mission of the Church, for all Apostles of Prayer, and for the intentions of the Pope this month. Amen.

Word of Life

“We share Pope Francis’ ‘conviction that everything possible must be done to rid the Church of the scourge of the sexual abuse of minors and to open pathways of reconciliation and healing for those who were abused.’” — United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, “Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People” (2018 Revisions), quoting Pope Francis, Letter, February 2, 2015. © 2015 Libreria Editrice Vaticana.

© 2015 Libreria Editrice Vaticana. Se utiliza con permiso. Todos los derechos reservados.

Around the Diocese

We NEED YOU! When Our Phone Rings, Will You Answer It?

Somewhere in the world, a lost soul is dialing our toll-free number hoping to find help. Will you answer that call? If God is calling you to help others, consider becoming a phone counselor for The Upper Room Crisis Hotline. We are a Faith-Based Hotline in the Catholic tradition providing counseling and referral assistance to anyone struggling to find his or her way back to God. We help everyone regardless of their faith or background. To be a phone counselor, you don’t need experience in mental health or phone work, although it is helpful. What you will need is a love for people and a strong desire to help the lonely, frightened and confused. We provide all the training. If this ministry touches your heart, please call Sr. Mary Frances Seeley at 815-341-9124 or email [email protected] with questions. Our next training session begins September 11th. You can also check us out at catholichotline.org. Thank you and God bless!
