    2 Service

If the machine remains out of use for a period of more than 4 weeks, a complete inspection of the

    machine has to be undertaken.

The condition and the functionality of the machine should be checked in the following circumstances:1. Prior to commissioning

    2. At regular intervals (every two weeks)

    3. After modification or repairs

    2.1 Service list

The following points are general recommendations and are not specific to every snow blade. Thepoints are specifically explained for each series/plowing machine in the relevant chapters.

During the annual service all screws and bolts should be checked for tightness and retightened ifnecessary. Weld joints on heavily stressed components should be checked for flaws and cracks.

A visual inspection should be made of the hydraulic system to check for leaks.

The completeness and correct fastening of all safety devices should be checked.

A visual inspection should be made of the machine mounting device.

The wheel bearings should be greased regularly (every 30 hours.)

Check the mobility of the rollers.

The electrical system should be checked to ensure that it is functional.

The hydraulic hoses, pipes, and connections should be visually checked for damage.

    2.2 Hydraulic oil and grease

    2.2.1 Hydraulic oil

When shipped from the factory the machine is standard filled with AralVitam DE46 oil. This is a min-eral-based hydraulic oil and under certain conditions it can be mixed with other mineral-based hy-draulic fluids. When exchanging the hydraulic fluid in the oil tank care should be taken to use an oil ofthe same type as a replacement.

If a hydraulic fluid of a non-mineral based type is used, it is necessary to check inadvance whether the oils are compatible, otherwise this may result in damage tothe plowing machine or operating vehicle hydraulics.

    2.2.2 Grease

The machine leaves the factory with greasable parts greased with a multi-purpose grease that has aworking temperature range of 35 to +120 C. The use of other grease is allowed providing they havethe same range of temperature tolerance as the original, factory inserted grease.

    2.3 Hydraulic hoses

Because of national safety regulations the owner/operator of the snow blade must ensure that the hy-

draulic hoses are replaced at regular intervals as required. This is also the case when no apparenttechnical safety deficiency is visible. The operative life of the hoses should not exceed 6 years. Themanufacturing date and the permitted pressure can be read on the hose covering material.

    Beware of crushing

People are strictly forbidden in these areas while the machineis operational or attached to a power source. Should it be

necessary to enter these areas for maintenance work, themachine has to have a stable place to stand, be properly sup-ported if needed, and be detached from the power source withall residual hydraulic pressure removed.

Additionally there are pictograms and explanations on the machine that describe the operating partand its function. These notices must be taken note of and adhered to.

    5 Commissioning (first start up)

The following points need to be observed and carried out if necessary in order to operate the snowblade optimally.

5.1 Connecting up to the operating vehicle

    5.1.1 Hydraulic connection

To operate a snow blade with hydraulic swivel equipment a double-acting pilot circuit (for mounteddevices) is required.

The line diameter of the feed and return lines needs to be at least NW 10 to ensure faultless func-tion of the snow blade.

The hydraulic connections are standard equipped with SVK size 3connectors.

    5.1.2 General

To connect the lighting equipment a plug needs to be attached to the carrier vehicle that is pro-tected by a 10A lead fuse.

5.2 Mounting the snow blade to the carrier vehicle

The snow blade is mounted to the carrier vehicle without tools by the snow blade's mounting device(mounting equipment of the respective carrier vehicle). When attaching the hydraulic lines to the carrier vehicle make sure that they are not twisted or foldedand are protected against outside damage.

The mounting equipment may not be modified or exchanged without prior consent by bema.Only original bema mounting equipment may be used.

The snow blade has to be level for optimal clearing operation.

After the mounting, all screws and safety devices have to be checked forfirm attachment.

A mounted snow blade can have a negative influence on the carrier vehicle's

    driving characteristics.

After removing the snow blade from the carrier vehicle ensure its stability byfolding down the supports.

    5.3 Lighting equipment

When clearing public traffic routes the snow blade is subject to identification according to road trafficlicensing regulations. The snow blade can be equipped with lighting equipment to meet the require-ments of the road traffic licensing regulations. The standard light system consists of two positioninglights with a set of cables and a plug (7-pin).

A socket needs to be mounted on the carrier vehicle in a suitable place to theconnection.

    5.4 Transportation

The following safety instructions must be observed when transporting a snow blade:

The snow blade may be transported only when raised.

Secure the snow blade against sinking during transport.

When using public traffic routes observe the road traffic regulations and road traffic licensing regula-tions.

    5.5 Power supply

5.5.1 HydraulicsConnect the hydraulic connectors attached to the hydraulic lines to the carrier vehicle.

Make sure that the hydraulic lines are not twisted or folded.

Due to faulty oil seals hydraulic oil can leak into the environment and perma-nently damage the environment. In case oil leaks are discovered, the machinehas to be shut down by the operator immediately and be repaired by a techni-cian.

    5.5.2 Electric

The electrical connection of the lighting system should be connected to the connector(s) on the carriervehicle.

    6 Machine operation

    6.1 Clearing snow

Bring the snow blade into operative position. This can be done by tilting the carrier vehicle mount invertical position. The Vulkolan strips have to touch the ground thereby. Adjust the snow blade byturning the variably height-adjustable rollers so that the Vulkolan strip is about 5mm above theground. This reduces the wear and makes scrape-free clearing possible.Swiveling to the side (left/right) allows for depositing the cleared mass to the side.
