! Study Steps to Learn a Word! Say – Say the word. Remember when you have

heard the word used. Think about what it means.

! Look – Look at the word. Find any prefixes, suffixes, or other word parts you know. Try to picture the word in your mind. Think of another word that is related in meaning and spelling.

! Spell – Spell the word to yourself. Think about the way each sound is spelled. Notice any unusual letter combinations.

! Write – Write the word without looking at it. ! Check – Check that you have spelled the word

correctly. If you have got the correct spelling, go onto the next word. If not, write the correct spelling next to the word.

! Students should read for at least 20 minutes every day.

! Students will get their books from the library or from the books already in the classroom.

! Please record your child’s reading every night. 5S in their student diary. 5C in their Reading Log.

! Students should read books within their AR reading level." If they read books which are too hard, they will not

improve as quickly as if they are to read books at their level.

" Similarly if they read books which are too easy, they are not challenging themselves.

! Most importantly we are trying to foster within the the students a love for reading.

•In much the same way you use a calculator in

Mathematics as a tool to aid the teaching and learning of

some mathematical concepts, so we believe that the

computer is one tool that we use to help with teaching and

learning.

•We don’t have a computer studies time, however we teach

the skills that are needed for that task.

•We don’t have set programs that we feel we have to

teach, but we want students to be confident users of

computer technology.

•We want to use the computers to develop higher order

thinking skills.

•Computers are integrated into every part of the curriculum.

•In Semester 2 students will be invited to purchase a lap

top through the school in preparedness for Middle School.
